There is an abundance of tourist facilities on your doorstep including hotels, restaurants, shops, pubs, beaches, charter boats, leisure centre and golf links. The countryside around the Downings is renowned for sandy beaches, mountain passes, scenic views and historical landmarks. This holiday home provides a great base for walking, angling, scenic drives, water sports and golf. The village of Downings is a very popular tourist resort and fishing port with lively pubs and night-life. It is situated on the beautiful Rosguill Peninsula. The natural landscape of this peninsula provides the basis for many of the activities that the visitor can enjoy. In addition to an abundance of golden sandy beaches there are many water based activities in the Downings area - including windsurfing, deep sea diving, sea angling and boat charters. There is also horse riding and hill walking. The Magherabeg Leisure Centre is located in Downings and features a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and gym. Later in the year(2008) a new spa will open in the Rosapenna Hotel On the doorstep of the holiday home you have the renowned Atlantic Drive. This is a scenic drive starting in Downings and continuing around the breathtaking Rosguil Peninsula. In the locality you also have the spectacular Lough Salt Drive. Within 1 km of the holiday home there are two superb championship golf links at Rosapenna - the Old Tom Morris Course and the recently opened Sandy Hills Course. Within half an hours drive of the cottage there are two more challenging links courses – Portsalon and Dunfanaghy. Within a thirty minute drive of the holiday home there are numerous things to do and places to visit. You have the majestic Glenveagh National Park and the beautiful Ards Forest Park. The lakeside centre in Dunlewy has something for all the family. In Dunfanaghy there is a workhouse famine museum. Churchill has the famous Glebe House & Gallery as well as the Colmcille Heritage Centre. Letterkenny has all the amenities you would expect to find in a large town - cinemas, museum, theatre, leisure centres, art galleries and excellent shopping. Tory Island and the ancient walled city of Derry are highly recommended day trips. |
