No.9 Ard Alainn - Portsalon

No 9 Ard Alainn is a wonderfully finished modern holiday home.  Situated directly opposite Portsalon's beautiful blue flag beach and Portsalon's marvellous golf links, the home is perfectly placed to explore this beautiful area of North West Donegal.

The cottage itself has all the facilities required to ensure an enjoyable self catering holiday experience. An especially attractive feature is the existence of two distinct living areas. On the first floor there is stylish living room with a balcony that overlooks the beach and golf course. A separate living area forms part of the open plan ground floor.

Surrounding Area

Portsalon is located on the Fanad Peninsula. This beautiful peninsula stretches north from the village of Milford via Kerrykeel to Fanad Head and back down to the heritage village of Ramelton via Rathmullan. It contains numerous bays, glorious beaches, rugged mountains, rolling hills and numerous small lakes.

Letterkenny, County Donegal's main town, is only 30 minutes by car. This modern town has a 5 screen cinema, bowling, go-karting, a superb modern leisure centre, a beautiful urban park, An Grianan Theatre, the Regional Cultural Centre and a wide variety of shopping.

The spectacular landscapes of the Inishowen and Rosguil Peninsulas, the unspoilt Donegal Highlands, the magnificent Glenveagh National Park and the ancient and historic walled City of Derry are all within an hours drive of the holiday cottage

Fishing

Sea angling is available at both Portsalon and Rathmullan  - on the Lough Swilly side of the Fanad Peninsula.  The Mulroy Bay side of the peninsula is the location of the Meadows Fishery. This is a two acre stream fed lake with good road access and parking space. Fishing is by fly only using barbless or de-barbed hooks. A range of fishing options are available to cater for both the experienced angler and the beginner

Surfing

The beautiful Ballyhiernan Bay is only 5 km from the holiday home. A beautiful unspoilt sandy beach skirts this bay. This beach is the location of the Adventure One Surf School  - the leading ISA (Irish Surfing Association) approved school on the north coast of Donegal. In Portsalon itself there is a water sports centre at the village harbour where kayaks, pedal boats, wetsuits and boogie boards can be hired.

Living Space

  Kitchen

The Kitchen is fully fitted and comes equipped with electric hob and oven, microwave, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher.  The Kitchen/Dining area is open plan, and here you will find a dining table with seating for 6.  This area also opens out onto the garden via patio doors.  A separate utility room also houses a washer/dryer.

  Living Room

A very attractive feature of this modern holiday home is the existence of two separate living areas. On the first floor there is a spacious living room with a stylish electric effect fire. This living area is comfortably furnished and features a flat screen tv. Double doors lead out to a balcony which provides good views of portsalon golf club and beach.  The second living area on the ground floor also boasts an open fireplace, comfortable leather suite and television.

  Bedrooms

There are 3 double bedrooms to sleep 6 people.  2 rooms are on the first floor and one of these is ensuite.  The third bedroom is located on the ground floor.

  Bathrooms

In addition to the main bathroom located on the ground floor, there is also an ensuite shower room on the first floor.

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro100 per week - with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period.
