Alcorns is a lovely 4 bedroom traditional Irish farmhouse that has been renovated to a high standard without losing its old style charm and character. The farmhouse is located just outside the holiday village of Rathmullan. Nestling on a hillside that overlooks the Glencross valley, this two-storey farmhouse enjoys panoramic views of Lough Swilly and the Inishowen hills. Sheltered by mature trees the farmhouse has a large enclosed garden - a safe playground for both children and pets. From the farmhouse a 10 minute walk along a lovely country road brings you to the Kinnegar Strand – a wonderful sandy beach that never gets too crowded. This beach leads to Rathmullan’s beautiful tree lined beach. Along the length of this beach you will find two excellent hotels - the 4 star Rathmullan House Hotel and the 3 star Fort Royal Hotel. Both hotels have excellent restaurants and the Cellar Bar in Rathmullan House does superb bar food. The village of Rathmullan itself is approximately 1.5 km from the farmhouse - a healthy walk by either beach or road - or a short drive. This charming seaside resort is now one of the most popular family holiday destinations in the North West of Ireland. There are several fine restaurants in the locality in addition to lively and friendly pubs. Sea angling, water sports, hill walking and horse riding are popular local activities. Rathmullan is also steeped in history – the local Heritage Centre is based on The Flight of the Earls. In 2007 the 400th anniversary of this famous event in Irish history will be celebrated - with Rathmullan at the centre of the commemorations. A car ferry links Rathmullan with Buncrana and brings the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula within easy reach of Alcorn's holiday accommodation. The ferry means that the renowned golf courses at Ballyliffin are now a 50 minute scenic journey from the farmhouse doorstep. Even closer to the farmhouse are the fabulous links courses at Portsalon and Rosapenna. There are many fine beaches and a number of very scenic drives within half an hours drive of the farmhouse - including the dramatic Knockalla Coast Road and the breathtaking Atlantic Drive. Within the same distance there are several villages - Portsalon, Ramelton, Carrigart and Downings - each with with very different character and all worth a visit. A little further afield you have the majestic highlands of Donegal - the spectacular Glenveigh National Park can be reached in 1 hour. The central location of the farmhouse in North Donegal means that it is an ideal base from which to enjoy some of the major events that take place in this part of Ireland including the Earrigal Arts Festival, the Donegal International Rally, and the All Ireland Fleadh Ceol which is taking place in Letterkenny in 2006 for the second consecutive year. For a holiday experience where great beaches, beautiful scenery and good food are all on your doorstep, look no further than this excellent holiday farmhouse near beautiful Rathmullan.
