The holiday home itself, is one of three, in a terraced row that has been extensively renovated. It has three upstairs bedrooms, a main bathroom, an en-suite, and a downstairs toilet. The lounge has a traditional open fireplace, and there is a large dining room and a fully fitted kitchen. It is fully insulated and double glazed with oil fired central heating. There is a large sheltered space to the rear of the cottage, with ample, secure parking off the main street. A sleeper couch in the dining room effectively allows the cottage to sleep up to six adults. Malin is a lovely, attractive village situated on Trawbreaga Bay, near the most northerly tip of the Inishowen Peninsula in county Donegal. The village is positioned around a triangular village green, with trees planted around the edge. When entering the village, the green gives one a pleasing sense of calm about the place. The main approach to the village, is over a unique ten arched stone bridge, which crosses the mouth of the Ballyboe river as it enters Trawbreaga Bay. The village has twice received the coveted accolade of "Ireland's Tidiest Town"! Within the village, and close to the cottage, is the Malin Hotel, a fine establishment, with two bars and a restaurant; useful if you don't feel like cooking, or want to enjoy a drink at the bar. The hotel caters for weddings. There are also two pubs, (Lilly's & McClean's) Ursula's beauty salon, a diner (Millbrook), a supermarket, hair salon, taxi rank, butcher, a post office and a garda station close by.
A ten minute drive west, along the edge of the bay, will bring you to
the lovely sandy beach known as "The Five Finger Strand"; (See bottom
picture.) - named after the nearby rocks protruding out of the water
like fingers. This road (which forms part of the "Inishowen 100"
route) will also take one to Malin Head, which is Ireland's most
northerly point, and from where one can enjoy spectacular coastal views.
