Annie's River Retreat Cottage

Free Wi-FiPets AllowedOpen Fire

Annie’s River Retreat is a two bedroom cottage, with its own access to the banks of the Gweebara River and views across to the mountains beyond. The cottage is situated in the heart of the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) area of West Donegal and has tranquil views of the mountains and river and sheep grazing in the field leading down to the river banks.

A Picture Perfect View

It is the perfect place to relax and be entranced with this special, unspoilt area of Ireland, particularly relaxing in the cottage’s large living area, with the turf wood burner stove, looking out our ‘picture window’ towards the river valley.

Electricity, water, oil central heating, Wi-Fi/internet access, initial supply of turf and kindling included plus pets welcomed with agreement (e.g. one well behaved dog). Parties/events not allowed. The cottage is strictly non smoking.

Fishing

The cottage is a great base for the keen angler. The Gweebarra River is a renowned fishing river (Permits Required). The Rosses area around Dungloe has over 130 lakes, many of them excellent for fishing.

Wild Atlantic Way

The holiday home is also a great central base for those wishing to explore the Wild Atlantic Way in West and South West Donegal. All along the coast from Arranmore Island to the dramatic Cliffs at Slieve League there are numerous headlands, rocky outcrops, sandy coves, islands, small harbours and some of the finest beaches in Ireland.

Ideal Walking and Cycling Terrain

The winding country roads and inland mountain tracks that surround the holiday cottage provide ideal walking terrain for the keen rambler. Cycling is a popular local activity and there is a dedicated cycle route along the Gweebarra Estuary. In the wider region around the holiday home there are a number of Waymarked Way walking routes including Slí Na Rosann and Slí na Finne

Local Festivals

The holiday home is also a central base to attend the various annual festivals and other organised events that take place in this part of Donegal. In Glenties there is the Patrick McGill Summer School, the Harvest Fair Festival and the Fiddlers Weekend. In Dungloe there is the Internationally renowned Mary from Dungloe Festival and a festival dedicated to the local writer Peadar O'Donnell.

Day Trips

A number of great day trips that can be enjoyed from the cottage include Glenveagh National Park, Arranmore Island, The Slieve League Cliffs and Glencolmcille Folk Village and historic Donegal Town with its castle, craft village and Waterbus Tour.
