One in a row of traditional old terraced houses, the cottage has two upstairs bedrooms and two upstairs shower rooms, with one of them, an en-suite. Downstairs, the lounge lies to the front of the cottage, with a 3rd bedroom in the centre, and the fitted kitchen to the rear. Normally, the cottage sleeps up to 5, but an additional fold-up bed can be provided should you need to sleep 6.
While the outside front
facade of the cottage appears fairly inconspicuous, a
unique feature, at the rear, is a large, enclosed, private back yard,
that faces directly onto the waters edge of Trawbreaga Bay.
It is south facing, sheltered, with plenty of space to provide secure
parking for a few cars; and in good weather, a great spot for an "al
fresco" meal or drink, while enjoying the view, or soaking up the
sunshine. The views across Trawbreaga Bay are amazing! (Please click on "owners
gallery") The centre of the town has a well maintained triangular village green, edged with shady trees, that provides a calming ambience over the area. Not for nothing has the town been twice awarded the coveted "National Tidy Towns award". It could be said that Malin is the most northerly town in Ireland, with Culdaff a close second. A 15 minute drive will bring you to Malin Head, which is Irelands most northerly point. This area has seen a large number of new dwellings built in recent years, but it is not actually a town (yet). The nearest sandy beach is at Lagg, about 3 miles, or a 5 minute drive on the road to Malin Head. Just a little further on, at another beach called the Five Finger Strand, you can see the waves rolling in from the Atlantic, and enjoy walks in spectacular surroundings. Some of the highest sand dunes in Europe are said to be found just behind this beach. A ten minute drive east will bring you to another lovely sandy beach at Culdaff. This beach has "Blue Flag" status and has a good play area for young children near the car park. Surfers will enjoy the waves if wind and tide conditions are right.
The Inishowen Peninsula is unique, in that it a microcosm of all that
Ireland has to offer in natural scenic beauty; and the cottage makes an
ideal touring base from which one can view these scenic wonders. You are
conveniently positioned on a part of the route known as the "Inishowen
100". This is a drive which more or less covers the whole peninsula in a
circuitous route of approximately 100 miles, mainly following the coast,
and affording breathtaking spectacular scenery along the way. |
