Ard Cottage is a newly refurbished property located centrally in north Inishowen Peninsula, beside the popular seaside village of Ballyliffin. The cottage has views of Inishowen’s highest Mountain Slieve Sneacht, and its surrounding hills. It is comfortably furnished and features an open fireplace and jacuzzi bath - its 2 bedrooms can accommodate up to 4 people.(up to 6 with sofa bed provided).

The championship links course and surfing on Pollan Beach at Ballyliffin is only a 5 min drive away with a local surf school nearby. Culdaff's surfing beach is also easily accessible and a handy feature of the cottage is the adjoining shed for the storage of bicycles, surf boards, fishing rods and golf clubs.

For the hillwalker and cyclist this is also an excellent base for exploring the many beautiful surrounding areas.

 

Clonmany

A five minute drive away is Clonmany,a traditional village in the heart of the Peninsula  The name of the town in Irish - "Cluain Maine" is translated as "The Meadow of the Monks". The surrounding area has many natural beauty spots and points of interest. The Urris area to the west of the village was the last stronghold of the Irish language in Inishowen. In the last century, the north Inishowen area was renowned as a location of poitín distillation. The Gap of Mamore in the Urris Hills takes the adventurous rambler on a long, winding path to spectacular panoramic viewpoints which encompass views of the Inishowen peninsula, the Atlantic Ocean, Lough Swilly and the neighbouring Fanad peninsula.

Clonmany Festivals

Clonmany's has three annual festivals. Clonmany Festival, attracts the young and not so young with its fun filled week long events. The McGlinchey Summer School looks at the history of the North West and The Inishowen Singing Circle is a concentrated weekend of traditional music and seminars.

All three festivals generate and maintain a vibrant community spirit and are visited by people from all corners of the globe, returning emigrants and tourists alike. 

Local Attractions

  • Doagh Island famine Village - This outdoor museum tells the story of life in this area in the 1970’s going back to the famine in the 1840’s resident Singers, Musicians and Dancers during June, July and August.
  • Mamore Gap: Mamore Gap offers panoramic views whether they be of the hills on one side or of the Atlantic Ocean on the other.
  • Ballyliffin Golf Club, one of the finest golf links in the northwest of Ireland is just a short drive away.
  • The Five Finger Strand: named after the line of five rock pinnacles which you can see jutting out from the headland at the entrance to the Bay.
  • Inishowen 100 scenic drive: 100 mile long signposted touring route around the peninsula and is an opportunity to experience some of Ireland's most breathtaking scenery. Amongst its highlights is Ireland's most northerly mainland point at the wild and rugged Malin Head
  • Greencastle Maritime Museum - The Museum is located in the old coastguard station above Greencastle harbour and has a commanding view over one of the premier fishing fleets in Ireland, with superb views over Lough Foyle towards County Derry. It is situated close to the terminal of the Greencastle – Magilligan ferry.
  • Fort Dunree Military Museum - Fort Dunree is perched majestically on a rocky outcrop overlooking Lough Swilly. An exciting new exhibition opens in the Museum this year covering the history of the Fort, the people who lived there and the events that shaped their lives. Original military equipment is used to tell the story of the Fort. Open June-September-all week
  • Glenevin Waterfall - located just outside the village of Clonmany this spectacular waterfall reveals itself after a pleasant walk through the nearby woodland.

All rooms, including the 2 double bedrooms, are located at ground floor level making them easily accessible. An extra 2 sleeping places can be provided by way of sofa bed provided.

The bathroom is adjacent to the 2 bedrooms and features a Jaccuzi bath and power shower.

Garage  Garage

A handy feature of Ard Cottage is the garage which can be used for the storage of golf clubs, surf boards, wetsuits, bicycles etc.
