This lovely, inviting, bright and comfortable
newly built home is beautifully furnished and has all mod
cons including 3 plasma tv’s, sky, a surround sound music system and i-pod
docking station. There is a library of books, games and dvds for all the
family. The house is right in the heart of
Carrick village where there is a great selection of inviting
friendly pubs, restaurants and shops all within walking distance.
Carrick
Carrick is situated at the heart of Slieve League, rated as being among
the highest sea cliffs in Europe. It has a rich cultural history and is
a centre for traditional Irish music. The annual fiddle festival is
hosted in the village from the 26th-29th October. There is a great
selection of inviting friendly pubs, restaurants and shops all within
walking distance of the house. Portahowly beach is a 5 minute drive away
and is both beautiful and safe with a view over to Teelin Harbour. Boat
tours leave Teelin Harbour every couple of hours for tours of the sea
cliffs. Both the Glen and Yellow rivers are just a walk from the house,
and day passes for salmon fishing can be purchased locally.
Kilcar
Kilcar village is a less than 5 min drive from the house, here there are
many inviting pubs and restaurants, John Joes Bar is extremely popular
and recently won Traditional Irish music pub of the year award. The
community centre Aisleann Cill Cartha has a gym, library, internet
access and a children’s cinema.
Beaches
As well as Portahowly beach, other Blue flag beaches close by include;
Fintra, Silver strand and Malinbeag.
Restaurants
The famous and delicious ‘Kitty Kelly’s’ restaurant as frequented by
Sarah Jessica parker is a 6 minute drive from the house. In nearby
Kilcar the food of Teach Barnai is highly recommended. For family dining
the Clock Tower and Blue Haven are just the right spots with good food
and great views from both. These restaurants reside on the road to
Killybegs and are an 8 minute drive from the house.
Killybegs and
Donegal town
Killybegs is one of Ireland’s greatest fishing ports, there are 2 hotels
for great pub grub, The Tara Hotel is particularly recommended for good
family food and views over the harbour. The popular set-dancing weekend
is held on the 10th, 11th and 12th of October.
Donegal town is great for shopping and days out. There is a children’s
park, an indoor play area ‘The bumblebee Club’ and many great cafes for
lunch. I would recommend Toni’s for great salads, sandwiches, breakfasts
and home-made chips which are divine. There is a Lidil and a Supervalue
in Donegal town which offer great value for shopping if you choose to
cook at the house..
