Malin Riding Stables Inishowen – Kate Mc Dermott has been involved with horses most of her life. She grew up in Lancashire but started her working life in Hertfordshire where, for eighteen years, she was teacher and later yard and riding school manageress for a large Equestrian Centre. Since her marriage to a local Donegal man and moving here she has been responsible for setting up two successful riding school businesses. A lady of great experience and skill, she has that rare ability – to teach and motivate riders of all ages and experience.

We have the horses to cater for all ages and experience in riding. It is a policy of the School that, where possible, riders will get experience on more than one horse so that their overall riding skills may be enhanced as a result.
Riders coming for Group lessons are carefully assessed before being allocated a horse suitable for them and they will be encouraged to develop their riding skills within their allocated group by developing their skills with others.
Experienced riders can ride on this beach Private lessons can be arranged to provide instruction on particular issues or to provide an opportunity for improvement away from the group approach. Hacking out is encouraged in order to provide greater interest and experience and the beaches of Trawbreaga bay are only a few minutes away, offering as they do, exhilarating opportunities for cantering on sand and in the shallows.
Our horses are trained in the English style but for those more used to Western riding and especially for those on holiday who might wish to experience English riding but would feel more secure in a Western saddle, we can, offer the use of Western tack. Western tack can also sometimes be useful for real beginners since it allows a novice to develop balance independently of learning the basics of riding.
New riders have a leader for safety. We provide tuition for children from four years of age. Tuition for younger riders is always first conducted on horses which are led by a handler. We also have some horses which are suitable for use within the riding for the disabled programme.
We have a pony riders group for children and for adults wishing to obtain supervised tuition and experience in handling horses, we offer stable management and equitation skills courses; particularly those which lead to AIRE qualifications. Of necessity these are tailored to a person’s specific needs and advice should be sought first regarding what might be the best approach.
All customers at Rose Cottage Riding School are required to wear approved standard riding helmets when in the vicinity of any horse. We also recommend the use of body protection where appropriate. Please be sure to ask for advice regarding the protection that would be the most suitable for you and/or for your child.
