Earagail Arts Festival 9-24th July 2011

The Earagail Arts Festival is an annual bi-lingual, multi-disciplinary arts festival and tourist attraction regarded by many as the “iconic” festival of the North West. For two weeks in July Donegal becomes a cultural hotspot with this wonderful celebration of contemporary and traditional arts which takes place at venues throughout the county.

Over the last 20 years the Earagail Arts Festival has become one of the most important summer festivals in Ireland. ‘The hills will be alive with the sights and sounds of music, drama and art’ (RTE Guide) . Year on year the Festival achieves feats which other festivals wouldn’t even dream of attempting.

The Arts Festival continues its great tradition of providing Donegal audiences with brilliant outdoor events in spectacular locations around the county that are suitable for all ages. The Festival now attracts over 25,000 people from Ireland and abroad, as its reputation as one of Ireland’s finest cultural events continues to grow. Last year the festival generated approximately €2m for the local economy – a huge boost to tourism throughout the Northwest.

The Earagail Arts Festival provides a unique and magical blend of over 80 events and installations at numerous venues across Donegal. During the festival, events are held in towns and villages from Inishowen to Dungloe and from Killybegs to Falcarragh. In this way it reflects the unique character and demographic of the county. The festival also provides an opportunity for the community to engage in the arts through skills development outreach projects. It is also a key platform for the development of Donegal artists and those pursuing a career in arts and crafts.

Each year the Earagail Arts Festival programme is a wonderful mix of music, theatre, outdoor family shows, children’s events, exhibitions and films. The festival strives to present innovative and exciting work from the best of established international, national and local artists.
