Mevagh Ramblers Walking Festival
Mevagh Ramblers Walking Club, situated in the Carrigart and Downings area of Donegal are holding their first walking festival on the 1st and 2nd of June, 2013. The festival will not only comprise walking amidst the unspoilt beauty of the Rosguill Peninsula by day but will also feature culture, good food and traditional music by night.
The festival programme will include two walks on each day – one moderate, taking approximately three to four hours, and one strenuous, taking four to five hours. These hikes will explore different terrains including bog roads, heather-covered hills, beaches and lovely headlands overlooking the sea.
Experienced local guides will lead the way and fill you in on details regarding the flora and fauna, as well as history of the area. For example, did you know that the local stone was quarried and used to build Lloyds Bank in London? By night, there will be lively music sessions in the local pubs while local hotels and restaurants will showcase the food for which the region is famous, including mussels, oysters, scallops and salmon from Mulroy Bay
On Monday, June 3rd an Informative/Historical walk will take place around the grounds of Mulroy House, ancestral home of Lord Leitrim. Numbers are limited so book early.
