Bracklea Cottage - Portsalon

Bracklea Cottage is a truly luxurious modern holiday home located in Glenvar - a small village on the spectacular Knockalla Coast Road between the holiday resorts of Portsalon and Rathmullan in North West Donegal. The holiday home is located on an elevated site and enjoys superb panoramic views of Lough Swilly and the Inishowen Peninsula.

The holiday home has top class accommodation for up to 10 people (suitable for 8 adults). The are 6 spacious bedrooms - 4 of which are ensuite. Both the living room and dining area enjoy superb views. The cottage also has a large playroom complete with pool table.

Local Activities

A 10 minute drive along the coast road will bring you to the holiday village of Portsalon where you will find a wonderful blue flag beach and a top class golf course. Portsalon Golf Club has been extensively redesigned in the last few years and is now one of the finest links courses in Donegal. At the village harbour there is a water sports centre where kayaks, pedal boats, wetsuits and boogie boards can be hired.

Glenvar itself is centrally located on the Fanad Peninsula. This beautiful peninsula stretches north from the village of Milford to Fanad Head and back down to the heritage village of Ramelton. It contains numerous bays, glorious beaches, rugged mountains, rolling hills and numerous small lakes.

Surrounding Area

A 25 minute drive away from Bracklea Cottage is Ballyheirnan Bay. This beautiful unspoilt beach is the location of the Adventure One Surf School  -  the leading ISA (Irish Surfing Association) approved school on the north coast of Donegal.

Sea angling is available at both Portsalon and Rathmullan  - on the Lough Swilly side of the Fanad Peninsula. On the Mulroy Bay side of the peninsula is the location of the Meadows Fishery. This is a two acre stream fed lake with good road access and parking space. Fishing is by fly only using barbless or debarbed hooks. A range of fishing options are available to cater for both the experienced angler and the beginner.

The spectacular landscapes of the Inishowen and Rosguil Peninsulas, the unspoilt Donegal Highlands, Glenveigh National Park and the ancient and historic walled City of Derry are all with an hours drive of the cottage

This beautiful cottage is in an excellent location for a range of activities including angling, hill walking, golfing, surfing and -  for those for whom such pursuits are a little energetic - it’s also the perfect location for a relaxing getaway

The holiday home has a spacious dining area. Large windows and double glass doors provide ample natural light and also maximise the superb view outside. The dining area features an elegant table and 6 chairs as well as a large solid fuel stove.
To the rear  of the house there is a large playroom with double doors leading out to sheltered patio area featuring patio furniture and a barbecue.

This wonderful holiday home has 6 comfortable and spacious bedrooms - 4 of which are ensuite.  The ground floor and the first floor each have 2 double ensuite bedrooms and a single bedroom. There is also a separate shower room on the ground floor
