The Bridge Bar - Ardara

The Bridge Bar is a 4 bedroom holiday town house located right in the heart of the heritage town of Ardara in South West Donegal.  The town house is directly opposite the renowned Nancys Traditional Bar and is just metres from the bridge over the River Owentocker.

The bridge provides one part of the houses name. The other part refers to the fact that the building was once a public bar (now closed for almost 40 years).  Apart from the name there is no trace of the old pub left – the Bridge Bar is now a lovely home with 4 good sized bedrooms, a bathroom, living room and kitchen with dining area.  A very attractive feature is an enclosed walled garden that borders the River Owentocker –an oasis of tranquillity just metres from Ardara’s main street.

The heritage town of Ardara  is a vibrant tourist centre with friendly traditional pubs, craft and tweed shops, art galleries and restaurants . Nancys Bar across the street from the holiday home is renowned for music and for its bar food – particularily oysters and Irish Stew. And just around the corner is the Corner House Bar owned by the McNelis family – 3 of whom dance in the Riverdance Troop.

Ideal Touring Base

Ardara is an ideal base to tour South West Donegal. Three beautiful peninsulas are within easy driving distance – Loughros, Dawros and Slieve League. The holiday home owners own land on the Loughros peninsula that borders the ocean – an ideal base for picnics, fishing or for kayaking enthusiasts. The Dawros Peninsula to the north has the seaside villages of Narin, Portnoo and Rosbeg . At Narin there is a fabulous Blue Flag Beach and a superb 18 hole golf links course. The large peninsula to the south of Ardara has the magnificent Slieve League Cliffs and the renowned Gaeltacht centre in Glencolmcille.

Ardara now has a well established festival programme which runs throughout the year and includes a Bluegrass Festival, the Ardara Agriculture Show, the Cup O’Tae Festival, the Donegal Harvest Rally, an International Walking Festival  - and weekends for traditional dancing and match-making.

• Visit the Ardara Heritage Centre - this centre has a exhibition on the history of Donegal tweed since the 19th Century using text, photography, artifacts, audio visual displays and demonstrations
• Visit Glenveagh National Park, with 16,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, wood and bogs.
• Enjoy some of the local beauty spots - the Glengesh Pass, Maghera Caves, Loughros Point and the Assaranca Waterfalls
• Take a trip on the Fintown Railway - the only working railway in County Donegal which runs along the shores of  the stunning Lough Finn

The living room is located to the front of the house and looks out towards the renowned traditional pub - Nancys - across the street. The room has a solid fuel stove and a comfortable furniture suite. There is a television with multi channel reception and a dvd player.

  Kitchen with Dining Area

The bright kitchen with dining area has a tiled floor. Kitchen appliances available include electric oven and hob, dishwasher,microwave and fridge freezer. There is a fold out dining table with seating for 6.

The enclosed garden to the rear of the house is an ideal venue for barbecues
