Capstan Cottage is a holiday home that forms part of a Coastguard Station that is located just off the spectacular Knockalla Coast Road between the holiday resorts of Portsalon and Rathmullan in North West Donegal. The holiday home is located on an elevated site and enjoys superb panoramic views over Lough Swilly towards the hills of the Inishowen Peninsula.

Hillwalking Along Knockalla Ridge

Knockalla Ridge on the Fanad Peninsula, is a scenic walk and has become very popular with hillwalking groups. The ridge almost spans the Fanad peninsula and gives easy walking with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, Lough Swilly and Mulroy Bay.

Dramatic Coastal Setting

Built in 1876, the Knockalla Coastguard Station is a terrace of houses set in a spectacular landscape, surrounded by the Knockalla mountains with sweeping views of Lough Swilly.   It was originally designed to provide offices and accommodation for the coastguards and their families. Captstan Cottage is located within the station. It has been modernised as a 4 bedroom self catering unit, but with many original features retained.

Beautiful Donegal famous for its wild and rugged coastal scenery and with spectacular sea and skyscapes where the air is so effervescent it is a tonic in itself. Just the place to escape the humdrum of daily routine, traffic jams and stress of the 21st century.

Watch the sea in all its moods, wild and frenetic to calm and as languid as a millpond. Climb the Knockalla Mountains for fantastic views of Mulroy Bay and the headlands of the Fanad, Rosguil and Inishowen Peninsulas. Fanad has some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Donegal. There is also array of outdoor facilities: fishing, golf, horse riding, watersports, good restaurants and pubs all in the locality.

What they say

Congratulations on an absolutely wonderful site! I was going crazy researching availability on other sites - that did not state price, no. of rooms, bathroom facilities often (even after clicking three or four links) and also did not follow a pattern for each entry. Your site is delightful. I could go through all pages of entries and with the price details given immediately did not need to waste time over entries not within my budget.
