Cavanaghs Self Catering No 4 is a 2 bedroom holiday apartment situated on an elevated site above Greencastle harbour and enjoys lovely sea and mountain views.

The apartment has its own enclosed patio area with stunning sea views and also shares a large paved area and a lovely mature hillside garden. And one hasn’t to venture too far to the “local – Cavanagh’s pub is less than 50 metres away. The short trip will be worth it because the view from the beer garden is breathtaking.

An Ideal Holiday Base for the Inshowen Peninsula

Greencastle itself is a small coastal town located in the eastern side of the scenic Inishowen Peninsula in Co Donegal. It is situated close to the narrow mouth of Lough Foyle and is just 1km by ferry from Magilligan Point in Co Derry. It also lies along the route of Irelands Wild Atlantic Way.

The village has a beautiful setting overlooking Lough Foyle towards the dramatic Benevenagh Mountain.  It originally developed as fishing port but it recent times has become a popular family tourist destination.  This is due to a number of factors including its central location on the Inishowen Peninsula, its easy access to the dramatic northern coastlines of Derry and Antrim and its proximity to the historic walled City of Derry.  It is also due to a number of more local factors including Greencastles rich maritime heritage, its friendly pubs, its beautiful 18 hole golf course and the wonderful Shroove beach overlooked by the dramatic Stroove Lighthouse. 

Local Attractions and Amenities

  • Play a round of golf at the scenic 18 hole Greencastle Golf Club – just a few minutes drive from the holiday home. The internationally renowned Ballylifffin Golf Club is 30km away.
  • Visit the Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium overlooking Greencastle harbour. The state-of-the-art Planetarium gives the visitor the ability to see how mariners used to navigate with the stars, and also provide dazzling astronomy and light shows. Facilities include gift shop and tea room.
  • Use the Greencastle to Magilligan Ferry to explore the northern coast of Northern Ireland. The Giants Causeway, Bushmills Distillery, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Dunluce Castle are just some of the top attractions in this area.
  • Enjoys a stroll along the scenic coastal path between Greencastle and Moville.
  • Take a trip to some of the many fine beaches in the locality. In addition to the blue flag Stroove Beach there are fine beaches at Kinnegoe Bay, Culdaff and Five Finger Strand near Malin
  • Try kayaking at the Inish Adventures centre based in nearby Moville. This centre offers inland and sea level kayak training as well as tours by canoe and kayak
  • Enjoy some award winning bar food in the locality including Kealys Seafood Bar in Greencastle, Rosatto’s in Moville and McGrory’s in Culdaff
  • Go sea angling from Culdaff. The Inishowen Boating Company operates 2 purpose built fast charter boats from Bunagee Pier Culdaff (22km). These fully licenced vessels offer sea angling and sight seeing on Lough Foyle.
  • Visit the newly renovated Isle of Doagh Famine Village near Ballyliffin. This wonderful attraction depicts life in Donegal at different stages throughout history in an informative and enjoyable tour
  • Other major attractions in the locality are Malin Head, the Gap of Mamore, Dunree Military Museum and Derry City (28km) – UK City of Culture 2013.

The kitchen sink window enjoys lovely sea views. There is a breakfast bar style dining table with stools. On good days the enclosed patio area has a table and 4 chairs for al fresco dining. A washing machine is also available.
