Crag Cottage - Culdaff

Sea ViewsPets AllowedOpen Fire

Crag Cottage is located just 30 metres from the sea! You can relax in the sitting-room or lie in bed and listen to the sound of the waves outside. Overlooking where the mouth of Culdaff River joins the bay, enjoy unspoilt views of Culdaff beach and Dunmore Head. With a small private beach, Crag Cottage is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday with or without the family.

Culdaff Beach

With bright golden sand and clear water, Culdaff beach boasts Blue Flag status and is listed as one of the most beautiful in Ireland. It is a perfect location for activities such as swimming, diving, surfing and shore angling. On a clear day enjoy the sight of Inistrahull Island and the Scottish Isle of Jura from the beach. You can continue walking along the estuary and river which is home to a wide variety of birdlife.

Fishing

If fishing is your passion you will be spoilt for choice. Shore anglers are a regular sight on Culdaff beach. There is Salmon and Trout fishing in Culdaff River. Bunagee Pier is 2 minutes away so why not hire a boat and enjoy some off-shore fishing. Local fishermen catch Lobster, Crab, Sea Trout, Pollock and Plaice. Alternatively, just grab your rod and bait, walk out the front door to the nearest rock and try your luck there! Various Fishing Festivals are held throughout the peninsula every year and the Sea-Angling Festival in Culdaff takes place in June.

Golfing

Culdaff is a 20 minute drive from Ballyliffin Golf Club, which boasts two championship links. Other nearby courses are found in Greencastle, Redcastle and Lisfannon.

Horse-riding

Rose Cottage Riding School in nearby Malin Town offers group and individual horse-riding lessons. Enjoy a canter on the sand and in the shallows of the spectacular Trawbreaga Bay, Five Finger Beach, close to the centre.

The Inishowen 100 Scenic Drive

This 100 mile long signposted touring route around the peninsula is one of Ireland’s most scenic drives. Drive up along Lough Swilly and down along Lough Foyle and enjoy breathtaking coastal scenery, ancient forts and monuments, craft centres, quaint villages and market towns. Some of the drive’s highlights include Grianán an Aileach – The Stone Fort of the Sun - 750 feet above sea level this ancient stone fort was once the royal residence of the O’Neills, the Ulster chieftains.

  • The Gap of Mamore is a road which rises to a height of 800 feet above sea level before a dramatically spiralling descent boasting panoramic views of the northern coastline.
  • The Isle of Doagh which has the interesting Famine Museum and the iconic wild and rugged headland of Malin Head is Ireland’s most northerly point.
  • The coastal route from Malin Head through Glengad and Culdaff towards Greencastle (where the Inishowen Maritime Museum and Planetarium is located) is spectacular and should not be missed.
  • The dramatic setting of Kinnagoe Bay is the final resting place for one of the ill-fated galleons of the Spanish Armada (La Trinidad Valencera) sunk in terrible storms in 1588. Other stops along Lough Foyle include the attractive seaside town of Moville and Redcastle.

What they say

Can I also take this opportunity to say how helpful and user friendly your website is - it is certainly a plus for Donegal. I became aware of it through a friend who has booked a house in Ballyliffin for a number of us attending a wedding in the area in the summer.
