Cromlech Cottage -Narin Portnoo

Cot & Highchair

Cromlech Cottage is a comfortable 2 bedroom holiday home located next door to the Dolmen Centre in the heart of the Dawros Peninsula in South West Donegal. The cottage is an ideal base to explore this beautiful part of Donegal. It is within easy driving distance of the coastal villages of Narin which is one mile away, Portnoo and Rosbeg and the towns of Ardara and Glenties.

Despite its rural setting the cottage has a number of amenities right on its doorstep.  It is located next door to the Dolmen Centre. This is an eco-tourism centre built by the local community. It takes its name from the ancient Kilclooney Dolmen which is located in a field behind the cottage. Facilities at the centre include a childrens playground.. The local pub - the Kilclooney Tavern -  is just a few hundred metres away.

A Landscape Dotted with Ancient Monuments

The Kilclooney Dolmen itself is a Portal Tomb built more than 4000 years ago. It is a fine example of the oldest kind of monument found in Northwest Europe and is much older than Stonehenge. Other impressive examples of Portal Tombs are to be found in the locality. Also closeby to the cottage is an ancient ring fort on Lough Doon

Tranquil Base to Explore South West Donegal

The superb Blue Flag Beach at Narin and the fabulous Narin & Portnoo Golf Links are just 2.5km from the cottage. A further kilometer along the coast is the quaint harbour at Portnoo. The Heritage Town of Ardara is 7km away. This vibrant town is well served with pubs, restaurants and craft shops. It holds several festivals throughout the holiday season. Glenties (8km) is another lively town which hosts the Patrick McGill Summer School and an annual Harvest Fair.

Just south of the cottage is the Sheskinmore Nature Reserve. Sheskinmore refers to a large area of sand dunes, lake and marsh that lies between Kiltooris and Ballinreavy Strand. It is regarded as one of the most important Nature Reserves in Ireland and has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), a Special Protection Area (SPA) and a Wildfowl Sanctuary. Sheskinmore is open to the public all year round, and offers families & nature enthusiasts many of the beautiful wonders of nature unique to Ireland.

What they say

“It was a lovely wee cottage, very comfortable and refurbished to a high standard. In a good location with a pub within walking distance. It was close to Naran beach which is lovely. The owner was very welcoming, would go back and would recommend to others. We had a great time, even though the weather wasn't so good.”
