The village of Carrigart has a range of small local shops along the main street. A relaxing day can be spent browsing these shops, chatting with the locals or perhaps popping into the Carrigart Hotel for some fresh local seafood washed down with a pint of Guinness.

The nearby Rosapenna Golf Club is one of the finest links courses in the county and can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities. Sheephaven Bay has some of the richest fishing grounds in Ireland and boats are available for charter from the pier at Downings - during the summer 2004 season quite a few large tuna were landed. The beach at Downings is popular with water sport enthusiasts and if you fancy a bit of scuba diving the local Mevagh Dive Centre has all the necessary equipment.

Downings is a lovely seaside village located amid the spectacular scenery of north Donegal. The village is blessed with superb beaches and has fine views across Sheep Haven Bay to the Ards peninsula (with the remains of Ard House on the point of the peninsula) and the distant flat-topped peak of Muckish. It has a long standing tradition of tweed making and fishing.
