Local Attractions

Donegal Town  (2½ km ) is  of great historical interest and has numerous tourist attractions. The O'Donnells, chieftains of Tirconaill, built the Franciscan Abbey in the town in 1474. In 1652 one of the Franciscan monks together with three laymen wrote the 'Annals of the Four Masters'  - the most famous chronicles of Irish history. An obelisk dedicated to the Four Masters is located in the market square - 'The Diamond'. Donegal Castle stands beside The Diamond, overlooking the River Eske. Guided historical tours of Donegal Town take place on a daily basis during the summer and the Waterbus takes you around Donegal Bay. The ruins of Donegal Abbey, situated on the bay, are open to the public.

Donegal Craft Village
is 1 km south of Donegal Town and features innovative Irish crafts including paintings, jewellery and ironmongery. The world famous Magee Tweed shop is located in the centre of the town.

Donegal Town also has several first class hotels and restaurants. There is entertainment each night in the local pubs with music to suit all tastes.

Harvey's Point Restaurant & Country Hotel on Lough Eske is around 4km away and is renowned for its food.

Horse riding and walking are popular locally, with guided hill walks along the Bluestack Way.

Nearby Murvagh has a beautiful Blue Flag Beach and a superb championship golf links course.

The Waterworld
complex in Bundoran is a 20 minute drive away.

Donegal is one of Ireland's primary angling areas with many centres for salmon, sea and brown trout fishing. Charter boats are available locally for hire.

Glenveagh National Park, 65 km away, has a resident red deer herd and has recently been the location for the reintroduction of the Golden Eagle to Ireland. Glenveagh Castle is surrounded by some of the finest and most varied gardens in Ireland.

Within an hours drive of the cottages there are numerous top class tourist attractions including The Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, the Marble Arch Caves in Fermanagh and Slieve League in South West Donegal - the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

F
or a holiday experience where fine beaches, a superb golf course and beautiful scenery are all on your doorstep, look no further than these cosy holiday homes near historic Donegal Town.
