The cottage is named after the area in which it is situated;  - Dundoan;  located in the North Eastern part of the Rosguill Peninsula, just a little off the Atlantic Drive, which circumnavigates the peninsula. It is some 5km from the village of Downings, and a little further from Carrigart, the nearest small town.

The cottage lies on an elevation forming the lower slopes of a hill known as Gortnalughoge, and looks south east over a narrow stretch of water with the local name of Inverbeg Bay.

This water eventually widens a little further north where it opens to the Atlantic between Melmore Head and Ballyhoorisky Point. The water widens again further south, into its main body known as Mulroy Bay. There are many convoluted smaller inlets and bays and islets along its course, and the three main towns along its banks are; Carrigart, Kerrykeel and Milford, at its southern extremity.

The cottage itself is a delightful three bedroom that sleeps six. It has a fully fitted kitchen, utility and dining area, a lounge with a traditional open fireplace, two bathrooms and a sun room (or conservatory). Outside, the property is landscaped, and has a wide gravelled area, - suitable for vehicle parking. The south west corner, adjoining the sun room has a decked patio area for making the most of available sunshine. The cottage is fully insulated and double glazed, and has oil fired central heating for added comfort in the colder months. It is situated in a quiet and peaceful location, and would be a suitable touring base.

The most appealing aspect is of course the unspoilt, spectacular panoramic views that one can enjoy from this cottage.
Some fine sandy beaches around the peninsula include, the Rosses Strand, nearby; Tra Beg Beach at Downings; and the long stretch of sea and sand known as Tra-More Strand.

Downings is a lovely seaside village located amid the spectacular scenery of north Donegal. The village is blessed with superb beaches and has fine views across Sheep Haven Bay to the Ards Peninsula (with the remains of Ard House on the point of the peninsula), and the distant flat-topped peak of Muckish. It has a long standing tradition of tweed making and fishing. It is traditionally an Irish speaking area where you are likely to hear Irish spoken but English is the language generally in use.

Sheephaven Bay is ideal for water sports and deep sea angling. The Rosapenna Championship Links Golf Course is just half a mile from the village.  This small peninsula area jutting out into the Atlantic also has interesting walks and drives.

Carrigart: With a population just under a thousand; the village is one of the neatest in County Donegal, and always fares well in the annual Tidy Towns competition. Uniquely for such a small town it can boast of it's own public park, hidden away behind the main street, in a superb setting on the shores of Mulroy Bay.

Features of the surrounding area are the many sandy beaches and rocky inlets making it an ideal area for bathing and something of a mecca for sea anglers.
Nearby golf courses include: - St. Patrick's Golf Club (18 hole), and Rosapenna (see above.).

The newly renovated North Star Bar on the main street has a great reputation for food and live music. The Carrigart Hotel, located at the end of the main street, is a very popular family hotel and has a superb restaurant and lively bar.
