Dun Masc Cottage ::

Tariff 2008

Is e Teach Saoire Féin Fhreastal Dun Masc ar a Charraig Fhionn. An Ghaeltacht a thugtar ar an chuid sin d'Éirinn ina bhfuil an Ghaeilge ina teanga pobail agus tá an cultúr agus na traidisiúin a bhaineann léi beo, bisiúil go fóill. The Gaeltacht refers to those areas of Ireland in which the Irish language (Gaeilge) is spoken as a community language, and its culture and traditions are very much alive and thriving.

Dun Masc cottage is located on an elevated coastal site on the Western periphery in the North-West Donegal Gaeltacht in an area of outstanding natural beauty and Special Area of Conservation. You will find purple heather covered mountains; lake filled valleys fringed by the unpolluted seas of the Atlantic and a coastline blessed with countless quiet and tranquil sandy beaches including Carrickfinn Blue Flag Beach proximate to the house.

The successful Round Ireland Swim Expedition 2006 started and finished on this beach. The owner of the house was the architect and Expedition leader of this pioneering, historic event.

Charraig Fhionn - Iarthuaisceart Gaeltacht Dhún na nGall
In Iarthuaisceart Chontae Dhún na nGall atá Dun Masc suite. Tá radharcra galanta anseo - sliabh agus mám, loch agus gleann, muir agus tuath. Tá uisce glé glan na Farraige Móire ag tuile agus ag trá ar a cósta creagach agus ar a cuanta agus a hinbhir – dúiche faoi shíth agus faoi shonas le saibhreas oidhreachta agus béaloidis na Gaeilge.

The wild and unspoilt lands & water surrounding Dun Masc Cottage is home to many species of flora and fauna, including; Giant Fern, Wild Orchid, Lilly & Heather, Fox, Badger, Pine Martin, Otter, Grey Seal, Corncrake, Cuckoo, Lapwing, Sandpiper, Curlew and Kestrel to list but a few.

The Name Dun Masc -The Rock of Dunamaise is Co.Laois's most historic site and one of Ireland’s most significant early Christian settlements. Dun Masc is the Irish / Celtic name for Dunamase.

The owners of the cottage met during a traditional Irish music session in Thurley’s pub located near Dun Masc in 1996. They married in 1999 and have a great affinity with this historic Fort, and Thurley’s pub of course!
