Situated less than 2 km from Malin Town, on the road to the fishing village of Glengad: - Elgan Cottage is a large and very spacious, newly built, self catering holiday home. Four bedrooms, to sleep ten, a fully fitted kitchen with dining area, utility room with separate toilet, a main bathroom with a jacuzzi bath, and two en-suites.

The lounge has a solid fuel stove for added thermal efficiency, and there is a large conservatory. The house is double glazed with oil-fired central heating throughout. All the forward facing windows and upstairs sky-lights afford spectacular panoramic views towards the Inishowen hills and Trawbreaga Bay. Suitable for large families or groups, with all the amenities provided for a comfortable stay.

Malin Town is located on the north-eastern end of Trawbreaga Bay, a shallow lagoon which empties up to 80% of its water volume at low tide. The picturesque little town centres on a triangular village green, and has twice won Ireland's National Tidy Towns award. A 5km drive from the town along the northern shore of the bay, gets you to a lovely sandy beach called the Five Finger Strand; from where you can view a prominent rocky outcrop called Glashedy Island, some 3km away.

Alternatively, from Malin, drive east for 6km to Culdaff, where there is another lovely "Blue Flag" beach. Here you will find a small fishing harbour at Bunagee Pier, from where a boat trip can take you to Inishtrahull Island, some 6 miles off the North coast. Back in Culdaff, a visit to McGrory's  is recommended. A hotel, restaurant, music venue, and a front and back room bar all in one establishment; - and, you also get to enjoy fine food, good service and great craic!

Not to be confused with Malin Town, is Malin Head; some 20 minutes drive in a north west direction, where, on top of a hill called Banba's Crown, you will have arrived at Ireland's most northerly point. There are wonderful south facing views, and some interesting walks here, as well as  Irelands most northerly pub!

On the south side of Trawbreaga Bay, A small headland or peninsula called Doagh Island, separates the bay from the Atlantic Ocean. Here is an outdoor museum of displays and models, exhibiting scenes from life in Ireland during the great famine of the 1840's. Called the Isle of Doagh Visitor Centre, or The Famine Village, the centre transforms into "Santa's Lapland in December, and is very popular with young and old alike.

The famous Ballyliffin Golf Club with its popular 2 links courses is also to be found adjacent to the Isle of Doagh. Golfers are spoilt for choice in Inishowen, where there are also courses in Greencastle, Buncrana,  Redcastle, and Derry. Ballyliffin itself, has 5 hotels.

A little further south, the road takes you to Clonmany, set in the Inishowen hills, and nearby, you may want to view the lovely Glenevin Waterfall.

If you head west, from Clonmany, you can drive over a pass in the hills called the Mamore Gap, and then down to Dunree, where you can see  Dunree Fort overlooking Lough Swilly, and visit the military museum there, with some big naval guns on display; once deployed as a defence, when the Lough had a more strategic value. (In the first world war, the British Grand Fleet took shelter in the Lough.)

In Greencastle, visit a maritime museum, and a planetarium; see the ruins of an old castle, or, if you feel like going to the Bushmills Distillery and the Giants Causeway; you can cross over to Northern Ireland by ferry to Magilligans Point across Lough Foyle.

A similar ferry service operates across Lough Swilly between Buncrana and Rathmullen, where an old fort houses a permanent exhibition depicting the event known as the "Flight of the Earls"; an important event in Irish History, and commemorating its 400th anniversary in 2007
