This tastefully restored stone-built traditional cottage is
located among mature trees and hedgerows on an elevated site close to
Glenveigh National Park in the very heart of Co. Donegal. Quite a few of
the cottage's original features have been carefully preserved
during the recent renovation work. This cottage would make the ideal
getaway from busy city life and would suit those who prefer their self
catering accommodation with more privacy and authentic character.
The cottage is
located approx 12km northeast of Letterkenny on the approach road
to Glenveigh National Park, the premier tourist attraction in the
northwest. Nestling in the foothills of the Derryveagh mountains in
central Donegal this superb traditional cottage makes the ideal
touring base for your family holiday - the fabulous beaches at
Carrigart, Downings, Portnablagh, Dunfanaghy, Portsalon and Rathmullan
are all within 30 mins drive time. Boats can be chartered at most of
these villages and the area has some of the finest golf links in
the country. Letterkenny, Donegal's largest town, with its shops,
cinema, theatre and public swimming pool, is just a 20 min drive away
Glenveagh National Park
Here within a late 19th century setting in a rugged and remote
mountain valley, Henry McIlhenny from Philadelphia created one of the
most celebrated gardens in Ireland. Woodland gardens and pleasure
grounds, an Italian terrace with antique sculpture and terracotta pots,
are all skilfully interwoven against the wild and beautiful Donegal
landscape.
The cottage is only a 5min drive from the park entrance!
The
Glebe House and Gallery
Located at Churchill, Letterkenny, the Glebe House is a Regency
house set in woodland gardens beside Lake Gartan. The Glebe is decorated
with William Morris wallpapers and textiles and has Islamic and Japanese
art. The Derek Hill permanent collection includes 300 works by leading
20th century artists, including Picasso and Kokosha, as well as Irish
and Italian artists.
Colmcille
Heritage Centre
Located at Gartan, Churchill, Letterkenny, this centre houses a
unique interpretative exhibition featuring the life and times of Saint
Colmcille (Columba) - Patriarch of the Irish monastic system and founder
of the Scottish Church. The exhibition is housed in a beautiful stone
building on the shores of Lough Gartan, within the Derryveagh mountain
range
