Glenview Cottage is a lovely 3 bedroom cottage located in the popular west Donegal town of Glenties. This cottage can accommodate up to 9 people and is just 5 minutes walk away from the centre of the town.  All the amenities in Glenties - shops, pubs, hotels and restaurants -  are close at hand.  Glenties itself is situated close to the beautiful west Donegal coastline.  Staying at Glenview cottage you can combines the convenience of town living with the benefits of having the countryside and its many amenities on your doorstep.

The Surrounding Area

The area around Glenties has been described as a fisherman's paradise. The Owenea River runs through the town and is famous for its salmon and trout fishing. The hills that surround the holiday home are dotted with numerous lakes that are filled with trout.

Indeed these hills are also ideal walking terrain. There are a number of excellent signed walks in this part of West Donegal. The Gap Trail  is 2 km outside Glenties This trail follows the route of a former bogcutter's railway and is a nice short excursion. The Bluestack Way is a more challenging route, coming over the Bluestack Mountains from Donegal Town and Lough Eske before coming through Glenties and following the River Owenea to Ardara.  Slí na Finne is a nearby loop route around Fintown Lake and Ballinamore, passing into the Bluestack Mountains and The Croaghs.

Golf at Narin & Portnoo

Just over 11 km from the holiday cottage is the fabulous Blue Flag Beach at Narin. Narin and Portnoo Golf Course if located along the length of this beautiful beach and provides the golfer with a true links course challenge. Rosbeg and Dooey are two other excellent beaches in the locality - with a surf school based at the latter.

The holiday home is also a central base to attend the various annual festivals and other organised events that take place in this part of Donegal. In Glenties itself there is the Patrick McGill Summer School, the Harvest Fair Festival and the Fiddlers Weekend and a Busking Festival. Nearby Ardara (10km) is known as the festival capital of Donegal. In Dungloe there is the Internationally renowned Mary from Dungloe Festival and a festival dedicated to the local writer Peadar O'Donnell. In Portnoo there is an annual seafood festival.

  • Fish for brown, sea and rainbow trout in some of the numerous lakes and rivers in the Glenties  areas
  • Visit the Sheskinmore Nature Reserve near Rossbeg
  • Golf at Narin & Portnoo Golf Club or play pitch and putt at Sandfield near Ardara 
  • Try surfing at the Dooey Surf School based at Dooey Strand
  • Visit  the St Connell's Museum & Heritage Centre in Glenties
  • Find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk
  • Take a trip on the wonderful narrow gauge railway that runs along the shores of Lough Finn at Fintown
  • Visit Dunlewey Lakeside Centre - Facilities include restaurant, tea-room, craft shop,  adventure play areas, pets & animals, storytelling, boat trips on Dunlewey Lake, guided tours and weaving demonstrations.
  • Take a day trip to Aranmore Island.
  • Visit Glenveagh National Park, with 16,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, wood and bogs. Glenveagh contains the largest red deer population in Europe.  Within the National Park Glenveagh Castle and gardens are well worth a visit on their own

For home entertainment there is a large flat screen tv and dvd player along with a selection of board games, books and dvds. A glass patio door leads out to a sheltered and paved patio area

The holiday home kitchen has fitted units and a tiled floor. Appliances available include an electric oven with large gas 5 ring hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. An adjacent dining area has a table and 6 chairs. Also available are a washing machine and tumble dryer.

Accommodation in the holiday cottage is as follows:-
