Gortnamullan Cottage is located on the western shores of the Malin Head Peninsula and has lovely sea views encompassing the Isle of Doagh, Dunaff and Fanad Heads and the imposing Glashedy Rock located 1km out to sea from Ballyliffin Golf Course.

Surrounding Area

Ireland's most northerly Point, Malin Head, is a 5 min drive away or can be reached on foot with relative ease. A short stroll to the front of the cottage leads you to an expansive shingle beach with large breakers continually rolling in to shore. A 3 min drive to the east brings you to Portmor, with its fishing harbour and sandy beach. The area has a selection of pubs including the Seaview Tavern Ireland's most northerly pub and restaurant.

The "Inishowen 100" is a drive which takes the visitor on a roughly circular tour of the Inishowen Peninsula, and gets its name from the distance of 100kms, the approximate distance covered if the whole trip is completed.

Local Activites

Some of the activities include; Hill Walking, Scuba-diving, Surfing, Golf, Fishing, Bird watching. For the golf enthusiast, the well known Ballyliffin Golf Club and course is a 20 min drive from here. Other golf courses are located at Greencastle, Redcastle and Buncrana.

Horse riding in this area is catered for by both Malin Stables and Rose Cottage Riding School which currently has over 30 horses, ponies and young stock, it also has 4 donkeys. Ponies and horses range from 11 hands to 17 hands. Children are taken from 4 years, group and private lessons are available with a maximum of 6 per group. All school ponies and horses are experienced and well behaved to ensure an enjoyable start in learning to ride.

Near Ballyliffin (and the golf course) on the beautiful Isle of Doagh, a visit to the Isle Of Doagh Visitor Centre is to be recommended. This unique outdoor museum tells the story of life in this area going back to the Great Famine in the 1840's. A Famine Village and typical dwellings such as Sod or Turf houses from those times can be seen here. The Irish Famine was at its worst between 1845 to 1848 causing the population to drop from 8 to 4 million through death and emigration

What they say

First can I just echo the comments that have been made about your site? It is by far the best site for cottages that I have stumbled accross! Great pictures, clear descriptions, good search facilities, etc.
