Greenhaw i
s a compact two bedroom cottage that can sleep up to four. It lies on a secure gated property at the rear of a larger house, with a large open field behind offering pastoral views. Situated within two minutes walk from the Culdaff Village Green and McGrory's. It is an ideal touring base in a secluded location offering good value.

Cloncha was the site of one of the most important foundations of the development of Christianity in Inishowen. It was a significant centre from the sixth century onwards, favoured by bishops as a final resting place.
The glory of Cloncha is surely the striking high cross in the field just beside the church standing four metres tall.

Only one cross now stands upright, another lies only partially complete, but fallen, in the same field. Carved in the distinctive manner of hybrid art produced by the Christian Celt, the carvings are both beautiful and intriguing.

Inside the church (the older church was replaced by a planter's church in the 17th century) are some beautiful carved stones. One a gravestone from a later date displays a great deal of artistry in the carving on a local limestone.

Cloncha Church, Greenhaw, Culdaff, Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland

Cloncha was the centre for conversion of a large part of Inishowen. The original monastery was much larger (some stones and crosses must have been destroyed, other are now held in the National Museum). It's influence was great and the fact that Carrowmore and another foundation at Culdaff were so near, would have made this area a great seat of skill and learning.

The cottage itself, is a small modern style two bedroom bungalow that sleeps four. It has the two bedrooms, a shared kitchen, lounge and dining area, a shower room and a central passage.

It is located on a property to the rear of a larger main house. The property is secluded with a dense conifer hedge around its front and sides, while the rear has a low wall separating it from a large farmers field, presenting a pastoral scene with sheep, trees and an old farm house. The property is situated in Culdaff along the R238 road to Moville. It is just a two minute walk away from the village green and the very popular McGrory's.

McGrory's is a small hotel, a fine restaurant and two pubs; - The Front Bar, noted for its fine selection of food, drink and traditional Irish Music, and the Backroom Bar, which is really more of a function room, famous throughout Ireland and beyond for its range and quality of music and entertainment. Also try the Caratra Lodge pub and restaurant, which is opposite the beach car park.

Culdaff Beach is a fine 1km stretch of sand and surf. It has a safe children's play area near the car park on the east side, and on the west side; the picturesque little fishing harbour known as Bunagee Pier. The pier is also a popular spot for anglers to cast a line.
