Surrounding Area

The village of Rossnowlagh itself lies between Ballyshannon and Donegal Town in South Donegal. It has one of Irelands most beautiful stretches of beach - miles of golden sand enclosed by gentle hills. Belalt Strand, more commonly known as  Rossnowlagh Strand  has – in recent years - become very popular with surfers not only from Ireland but from all over Europe and elsewhere in the world. Surfboards and wetsuits, as well as surf lessons, are available for hire at the surf club on the seafront. The magnificent beach also provides ideal conditions for safe bathing (with lifeguard patrols), walking, jogging and simply enjoying the invigorating fresh sea air. Close by, the Donegal Historical Society Museum is housed in the Franciscan Friary and is well worth a visit.

In addition to the wonderful blue flag beach Rossnowlagh has a selection of fine pubs & restaurants - including the superb Seashell Restaurant in the Sandhouse Hotel and the renowned Smugglers Creek bar/restaurant. Good food is also available in nearby Herons Cove and Creevy Pier Hotel

Rossnowlagh is an ideal base to tour the North West of Ireland. The beautiful beaches and coastline of South Donegal are on you doorstep. Within a half hours drive you also have the wonderful ‘Yeats Country’ in Sligo and the majestic Fermanagh Lakelands.
