The cottage lies approximately two
miles south west of Ardara, off the road to Glencolumbkille and
Carrick.
It is situated on the lower slopes of a spur that rises to form a peak
known as Crocknapeast, at the entrance to the narrow valley,
before the road winds up to the spectacular Glengesh Pass.
A short steep driveway at
the entrance, brings one up to the elevated property, and the cottage.
There are four bedrooms to sleep up to nine, with the two upstairs
bedrooms each having an en-suite. The welcoming lounge has a
lovely stone faced open fireplace, and an open
entrance to a modern fully fitted kitchen.
The dining area is
situated in the light filled sun-room, to the side of the kitchen. Just
outside the sun-room, a sheltered patio
area, with comfortable outdoor furniture, where depending on the
weather, one can enjoy a barbeque, or a sun-downer with
spectacular views.
The cottage is well insulated against the elements, and is fully double
glazed, with oil fired central heating for the colder months. There are
great views of the surrounding countryside from all the windows,
especially from those that look south, up the Glengesh valley towards
the pass.
Ardara is a picturesque village,
situated at the centre of three peninsulas, and is set in a valley near
the mouth of the Owentocker River, just before it enters Loughros-More
Bay. Visitors can see the weaving centres where the world famous Donegal
tweed is spun, and enjoy other crafts such as hand-knitting and
embroidery. Visit the town Heritage Centre to find out more about the
story of Donegal Tweed, from the shearing of the sheep to the
manufacture and completion of the beautiful woven cloth.
