Inishcoo House

Inishcoo House is a beautifully restored 18C coastguard house standing alone on an uninhabited 109 acre island. Inishcoo Island is just 5 minutes boat ride from the fishing village of Burtonport on the mainland. The house has been partly rebuilt and refurbished as a comfortable eco-house but retains its unique character.

The large south-facing terrace looks out over the beautiful bay. The house and surrounding garden are completely enclosed and safe for wandering children. Beyond the old stone wall surrounding the garden are another 6 acres of enclosed private grounds where children can play among the wild flowers and boulders.

There are 4`glorious sandy beaches on Inishcoo Island. Near Beach, the closest to the house, stretches out right to Eighter Island at low tide: swimming, rock climbing, gathering seashells and cockles, rock climbing and sandcastles…there is always something to do! On the opposite side of the island (about 20 minutes’ walk) lies Bottom beach, a beautiful and wonderfully secluded little bay with crystal clear water. Further on, Shipwreck Beach is the place for seashells, wild mussels, smooth pebbles…and a small shipwreck of our own.

The island offers plenty of wonderful walks inland amongst giant boulders nestled in purple heather. There is a freshwater lake where birds come to fish, a marshy bog dotted with wild iris and a craggy shoreline on the eastern side of the island.

For those who want to explore Donegal, some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery in Ireland awaits them. Mountain ranges, deep lakes, the tallest cliffs in Europe, mile-long sandy beaches, legendary links golf courses, old pubs: everything is here to make this holiday completely unique!

    What they say

Cannot fault Inishcoo at all. It was one of the best trips away we’ve had in a long time. From the second we arrived we felt relaxed and at home. The boat journey over took about 5 minutes and Oscar who took us out on the boat was great. He was so friendly and nothing was a problem for him. The house was immaculate and there was plenty for the kids to do too (not one iPad was looked for) I cannot wait to stay again!

    - Caroline, September 2021

Was a trip of a lifetime. Perfectly suited for a big group. Had more facilities than we could have dreamed of. Stunning scenery, could explore the island for days!

    - Vanessa, June 2021

We had an amazing time on Inishcoo, wandering the island, swimming, kayaking playing games. The house is perfect and exactly what we had expected, if not more. Heating was on when we arrived, which was nice. There is also a lovely fire in the main room. Beds were perfect, rooms spotless. I would highly recommend for a group of friends or family who want to get away from everything for a few days.

    - Aaron, September 2020

Idyllic location, big and beautiful house, and plenty of things to do. We had a fantastic stay, adults and children alike !

    - Paul, March 2020

Myself and a group of friends stayed on Inishcoo for new years. We had a great time. Caroline was very helpful and quick to answer any of our questions. Oscar was brilliant and great fun. He gave us loads of great tips when dropping us off to the island. The house is lovely and has a well stocked kitchen. Overall we had an excellent stay.

    - Steve, January 2020

Amazing place! amazing scenery! amazingly responsive hosts! shout-out to Oscar, great great host. Thanks a million for everything!

    - Manuel, October 2019

This is a super house for a large group. The island is beautiful, and the house itself is stunning and warm. Oscar couldn't have been more helpful and really made the whole experience easy for our group. We'll definitely be back.

    - Killian, September 2019

“ An absolutely phenomenal stay, I genuinely couldn’t recommend the space highly enough. Communication was prompt and clear as well as being extremely accommodating of any extra queries - we will definitely be back!

    - Edel, May 2019

“ We had an ideal getaway on Inishcoo. We had a very large group and there was a bed for everyone and loads of space. Oscar dropped us over on his boat and was very accommodating and friendly, giving us tips on what to do on the area and showed us around the house. There were sea kayaks that we were able to use and visit the nearby beaches, some of which were the nicest I've ever been on. I would highly recommend Inishcoo and look forward to visiting again in the future.”

    - Emma, May 2019

“ Went with a big group of friends and we all had a great experience. The facilities, the location, and the host were all amazing and made for an unforgettable weekend. I think it’s safe to say we would all go back tomorrow if we could. A big thank you to Oscar, who brought us to and from the island and guided us all weekend, for making things run so smoothly and helping us make the most of our time there. 10/10”

    - AJ, June 2019

“ What an amazing place! Stayed for a week and still had plenty of exploring left to do! Our only regret when leaving was that we did not spend enough time on the island. Inishcoo Island was worthy of a week itself. It was so much fun to walk the beautiful beaches, search out the grazing cattle and explore the island. Also had great fun catching lobster and shrimp for dinner in the shrimp pots at the house! Oscar was great. He was so patient and accommodating with our group of 11. Can’t recommend Inishcoo House highly enough!”

    - Jill, June 2019

“ Beautiful island house, very large and spacious rooms with aesthetic view. This beautiful island has got a private beach, you need at least 5 days to explore the whole place .And the host Mr Oscar was exceptionally good and could not have been more helpful and accommodating .He was always just a phone call away with his boat.we will highly recommend this place for the location ,privacy, and the host Mr Oscar. Will definitely visit again.”
