Jamie's Cottage, at the Aughrim Heights development
in the village of Ballyliffin, is situated in a quiet, secure
environment, surrounded by the spectacular local hills and
affording a glimpse of nearby Pollan Bay from the front of the house.
The cottage, although compact in appearance, makes maximum use of
available space. Inside there are 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and dining
area, utility room, lounge and conservatory, a bathroom and 2 en-suites.
Jamie's is within walking distance of the centre of Ballyliffin and its 5 hotels,
and about 2km from the long stretch of beach known as Pollan Strand.
Ballyliffin is in a lovely scenic area of the Inishowen Peninsula,
surrounded by hills, near the mouth of Trawbreaga Bay and the sentinel
rock known as Glashedy Island, just off the mainland, which can be
viewed from many vantage points.
A popular local activity, (to mention just one) is hill walking; - perfect
for the area, although the main attraction here has to be the very
popular Ballyliffin Golf Club, unique for its 2 links; the old and the
new, and a great new state-of-the-art clubhouse.
On the Isle of Doagh, just on the other side of the golf course, and not
to be missed if you are in the area, is the "Famine Village": An outdoor
exhibition of models and structures depicting life in Ireland during the
great famine of the 1840's and onwards. To fully appreciate the museum,
you have to go on the "guided tour", after which, refreshments are
served. The centre holds different events throughout the year, with
dancing and music performed by local artists in the summer months, and
during the winter in November- December, the centre transforms into
"Santa's Lapland"! - for this, early booking is recommended.
Around Ballyliffin and within less than half an hours driving; some
other attractions include:
Glennevin Waterfall at Clonmany.
Malin Head, Irelands most northerly point.
Fort Dunree Military Museum with its Naval Guns.
The town of Carndonagh.
The Maritime Museum and Planetarium at Greencastle
The town of Culdaff with the famous McGrory's Pub, Restaurant, Hotel and
Mac's Backroom Bar - a venue where you can be assured of good service,
nice food, a blazing turf fire, and great "craic"! A venue for musical
talent from all parts of the country and around the world. The Backroom
Bar has hosted many top names in music.
Not much further:
The town of Buncrana, which has a ferry link across Lough Swilly to
Rathmullan.
The historical and picturesque village of Fahan, with its yacht marina.
The Griannan of Aileach, an ancient stone ring fort at the southern end
of Inishowen. (Presently undergoing restoration work.)
The city of Derry, with its historical
walled old town. |
