Johnnys Cottage - Glenties

This recently renovated two bedroom traditional cottage  is located two miles from Glenties village, in County Donegal. The cottage acts as an excellent central base for a holiday in Donegal, being only thirty minutes from Letterkenny, Ballybofey, and Donegal town. It is twenty minutes from the nearest sandy beach at Portnoo, and about ten minutes to the Fintown Railway, which runs alongside the scenic Fintown Lake.

There is an excellent view of the surrounding hills from the cottage, with the Bluestack Mountains in the distance.

The cottage sits on a ¼ acre of land, and is surrounded by farmland in all directions, making it an extremely private location for a holiday. It is accessed from the main road by a long laneway. The large garden to the rear is enclosed by pine trees, and is ideal for children to play. The cottage is child friendly, with a range of toys available for children on request.

The cottage was built approximately 150 years ago, and was recently refurbished in 2008. It is enclosed at the rear by tall pine trees and at the front open to the mountains, with views of the Blue Stack Mountains in the distance. The front of cottage is south facing, with the west facing patio open to sun from morning to late evening.

The cottage is situated two miles from Glenties village, in a remote location. It is suitable for walking, cycling, fishing, golfing, or just resting. There is a beautiful cycle route from the cottage to Glenveagh National Park, which follows virtually traffic free roads, with views of mountains, lakes, and rivers (see write up on owners website). There is also a hill walk to the nearby lake situated on the hill top behind the cottage. Information on these routes are available from the owner. Cycle hire can be arranged on request (including tandems).

Distances

Nearest Village. Glenties, 5 minute drive, Donegal town, 30 mins, Letterkenny, 30 mins drive, and Ballybofey, 30 mins.
Beach. 20 minute drive to Portnoo and Ardara.
Golf Course. There is a golf course at Narin, which is approximately 20 minute drive away.
The holiday home is approximately 30 minutes from the beautiful Glenveagh National Park.

Living Space

The spacious kitchen and dining area, leads out onto an outside patio area. The newly fitted kitchen features an exposed timber ceiling, tiled floor, solid wood worktop and modern high and low level cupboards. the kitchen windown looks out over the large rear garden.
The large solid pine dining table has six chairs.  A separate utility room (within cottage) contains the washing machine, iron and ironing board and a fitted sink.

The living room has an open fireplace, settee and comfortable armchairs, TV, and enjoys panoramic views over the surrounding mountains.  It is elegantly furnished and features a pine wooden floor.

Solid fuel (local turf, timber, coal) is included.

• Bedroom 1. Double bedroom, with wooden floors, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers hot-press and views to surrounding mountains and countryside.

• Bedroom 2. Double bed and bunk beds, bedroom furniture, open fire, wardrobe, chest of drawers, and views to surrounding mountains and countryside.

The bathroom has a bath, basin, WC and an enclosed shower cubicle, fitted with a modern electric shower.

Booking Details

Non-refundable booking deposit of euro100 per week - with balance to be paid six weeks prior to the letting period. If this is not possible due to last minute booking please contact us.
