Kinnagoe Cottage ::

Tariff 2008

Set in a quiet and peaceful location, at the end of a cul-de-sac in the new Cara Bay development in Culdaff; - Kinnagoe Cottage makes an ideal touring base for this most northerly part of Ireland, and would be quite suitable for families, or small groups of up to six.

Cara Bay lies on the edge of the Culdaff River estuary, and is approximately a mile away from a lovely sandy "blue flag" beach. Near the beach car park, is a recently constructed children's play area. The beach has a picturesque little fishing harbour on its west end, sheltered by Bunagee Pier; a popular fishing spot. With the right wind and tide conditions, the beach also provides an excellent venue for surfers.

Within the town, the main attraction is without doubt - McGrory's:

A pub, restaurant, hotel and music venue; - with "fine food, good service and great craíc".

The establishment has been going since 1924, and its Mac's Backroom Bar is an essential part of the itinerary of many international (and national) musicians touring Ireland. The front bar is one of the finest pubs in Inishowen, with its natural stonework, rugged beams, and a warm, welcoming, open fire blazing in the corner on a cold winters night. It is a regular attraction throughout the year, with traditional Irish music sessions every Tuesday and Friday, featuring some of Donegal's finest traditional musicians.

Attractions in the area include:

The famous Ballyliffin (two links) Golf Club. There are also other golfing facilities at; Buncrana, Greencastle, Redcastle and in Derry.

The Isle of Doagh Visitor Centre, with its Famine Village, and displays and models telling the story of the great Famine in the 1840's. In November/December the centre transforms into "Santa's Lapland"; - Early booking for this is essential.

The beautiful Glennevin Waterfall near Clonmany.
Malin Head; Ireland's most northerly point.
Greencastle, on the banks of the Foyle, with a Maritime museum, a Planetarium, and a ferry service across the Foyle to Magilligan Point into Northern Ireland.
The Guns of Dunree Military Museum at Fort Dunree overlooking Lough Swilly. (Inishowen's own "Guns of Navarone")

The town of Buncrana; with its much photographed Castle Bridge, Vaughan House, O'Doherty's Keep, and a popular ferry service across Lough Swilly to Rathmullan. (Operates in the Summer only)

The ancient ring fort or "Rath" known as the Griannan of Aileach, which overlooks the southern edge of the Inishowen Peninsula, offering sweeping 360º panoramic views, with 4 counties visible on a clear day.
