L'Abri Cottage exudes a warm welcome from the moment one steps over the threshold. It has all the features of a country cottage and is wholly ideal for five adults or family with children. The holiday home is set in the heart of the Donegal countryside and yet is close to a host of amenities. It is the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway.
The ground floor of the cottage is open plan with kitchen, dining and sitting room areas. There are patio doors from the sitting room area opening onto a large decking area which hosts bench, table & chairs. This overlooks the owners vegetable garden and has all day sun. The large window from the kitchen looks out onto the surrounding mountains and countryside and the owners large garden which has a fish pond and many beautiful shrubs and flowers which are pleasing to the eye
On the first floor there are two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and room for a cot if necessary. The second bedroom has one double and one single bed with ample space to accommodate three persons. This cottage has been built by the current owners for comfort and a totally unwinding experience.
The cottage has a tranquil rural location and yet it's only a two minute drive to the local convenience shop, bar and restaurant and the local Catholic Church. The landscape around the cottage is excellent walking, hillwalking and cycling terrain, with something new and exciting to discover around every corner. The larger village of Kilmacrennan is 5 minute drive and town of Letterkenny approximately 10 minute drive. Lough Gartan with its adventure centre and the renowned Glebe Gallery are also within a 10 minute drive.
The holiday home is just 9km from the magnificent Glenveagh National Park. Glenveagh is the jewel in the crown of Donegal tourism. This magnificent park contains 14,000 hectares of lakes, mountains, raised bogland and woodland. The golden eagle has been reintroduced into the park in recent years. Other birds that can be seen include grouse, ravens, redstarts, stonechats and wood warblers. The park has the largest herd of red deer in Ireland and also features foxes, badgers, hares and stoats. The 19th century Glenveagh Castle on the shores of Lough Veagh is open to the public throughout the tourist season.
The bright kitcen forms part of the open plan ground floor. It has ample storage in kitchen units and is fully stocked with all cooking utensils. It also has a charming hand made pine dresser adding character as well as extra storage space. The view from the kitchen window is postcard perfect.
The living room is located to the rear of the house, has an quaint wood burning stove incorporated into a stone built wall which adds to the comfort of this charming cottage. Patio doors lead on to a large decked area where our visitors can enjoy their breakfast whilst listening to the birds and enjoying a late evening barbecue.
