Mary Deeney's Cottages ::

Tariff 2008

Situated off the R238, between Muff and Quigley's Point, in the Ture area; - a group of five cottages are clustered together, nestling on a slope at the foot of Iskaheen mountain and
overlooking Lough Foyle.

Grouped around a central "courtyard" area like a small village square, there are four cottages forming a part of single L shaped structure, with a separate detached cottage, completing the open square formation. The cottages are adjacent to Mary Deeney's bar and restaurant - a favourite among locals and tourists alike.

House 1, has wheelchair access and is a ground floor apartment with open plan kitchen & living room with 1 double bedroom and sofa - also pulls out to a double bed

Each cottage is different from the other, with its own unique "character"; some with thatched or tiled roofing, some with stone faced walls and others in white painted plaster.

All the cottages have the same basic features and quality throughout, though they will differ in style, size, and appearance. They all have double glazing and oil fired central heating for warmth and comfort; - and all have fully fitted kitchens and at least one bathroom. (Three cottages also have en-suites). Positioned on the eastern side of the Inishowen Peninsula, the east facing cottages have views of Lough Foyle.

Tariffs will vary according to size and facilities, but we are sure there is a cottage to suit your particular needs.

At
Christmas. the complex is (suitably) transformed into a magical venue for children to visit Santa, with a sleigh and a large nativity set. The cottages are all lit up, and there is a large illuminated "Christmas tree". (for the Foyle Hospice Charity.)

Muff is the nearest village, 5km away, it just a 5 minute drive to the south, and it is close to the Northern Ireland border and the city of Derry, which is 8km away.
In an area known as
Iskaheen, slightly north west of Muff, is St.Patrick's Church, with a burial-ground, and this interesting plaque mounted on the wall of a nearby ruin.

plaque - Mary Deeney's Cottages, Muff, Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland

It states that Eoghan (or Owen), after who the Isle of Owen or  Inishowen gets its name, was a son of Niall of the nine hostages, and he (Eoghan) was buried here in 465AD.

Niall was a legendary Irish King of the 5th century, and it is believed that he captured (St) Patrick and brought him in bondage to Ireland. As we all know, Patrick later played an important role in converting the Irish to Christianity.
At the southern tip of Inishowen off the road between Derry and Letterkenny, at Burt; one may visit the site of an even more ancient structure; - the Grianan of Aileach.

This is one of the finest and oldest stone ring forts in Ireland. Said to be 3700 years old, and linked to the Tuatha De Danann, a tribe who invaded Ireland before the Celts. From the site, there are spectacular views of the surroundings, particularly looking north towards Lough Swilly.

Golfing enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that there are a few golf courses nearby; at Redcastle, Greencastle, Culmore (In Derry), Ballyliffin, with its 2 links, and Lisfannon at Buncrana. The furthest, should not be more than a 25 minute drive.

The
city of Derry airport lies just across the Foyle, you will have to drive around, via the Foyle Bridge, and it is about 12 miles away.

There is a ferry crossing the Foyle between Greencastle and Magilligan Point into Northern Ireland. This is convenient for touring along the North Antrim Coast and to The Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Bushmills.
