Millers Cottage ::

Tariff 2008

The Millers Cottage dates back to 1609 when Ramelton was originally founded. Ramelton was built between 1609 and 1622. Before that there was a Castle here which stood on the water's edge and belonged to a relative of the O'Donnells, Lord of Tirconaill. The Mill served the Castle which was located on what is now called Castle Street.  Mc Daids buildings are now to be found where the Castle once stood.  Sir William Stewart, given land by the King, extended the Castle and then built the town with 45 houses along a paved street, a Reformation church and a corn mill. The Castle was burned in 1642.

The cottage is located beside the Town Hall which has a Country Market every Saturday morning at 11am. There are tennis courts located behind the Town hall. The cottage is situated on a small quiet road which leads out of Ramelton onto a maze of other small roads some of which lead down to the shore.

The village of Ramelton itself is steeped in history and heritage. It has managed to hold on to much of its old world charm and character through preserving many of the fine historical Georgian buildings that make the village unique in this part of Ireland. The village is not only blessed with wonderful architecture, but also with a delightful location on the banks of the River Lennon.

Within this beautiful architectural setting there is a vibrant village with many amenities for you to enjoy during your visit. The recently renovated Town Hall is the venue for a variety of entertainment including concerts and stage plays. The village has many quaint pubs - the Bridge Bar is a highly regarded music venue while Conway's Pub enables the visitor to take a step back in time. There is also an art gallery, wine bar and a designer knitwear studio in Ramelton.
