Tariff 2009

Monea Cottage is a spacious four bedroom, self catering holiday bungalow in the Carrowhugh area, just west of, and on an elevation above Greencastle. The cottage can sleep up to ten with the inclusion of a double sleeper couch. It has four bedrooms, a main bathroom, en-suite, lounge, kitchen and dining area, utility room, hallway and passage.

The kitchen is fitted with all the modern conveniences, and the house is fully insulated, double glazed and centrally heated. The TV has free-view satellite reception, and all the front facing windows have views over Lough Foyle. Outside, a large front lawn gently subsides down to the unrestricted view below. The back yard also has a large lawned area, and a patio.

Within 1 km, or walking distance, a few local pubs can be visited;
The 'Drunken Duck' is possibly the better known one; and it also has a fine restaurant specialising in sea food. 'Sean-Tíghe's' and Michael John's are two other local pubs. A little further in Greencastle you will find others; - and a drive to nearby Moville will yield greater variety, including fast food, Chinese, fine restaurants, pubs, and more. If that's not enough, a short trip to the city of Derry, should satisfy most, with the addition of night clubs, disco's  theatres and cinemas.

Greencastle is small, vibrant coastal fishing village, that is slowly turning into a holiday venue as more self catering homes are built in the area. Do visit the harbour area, The Maritime Museum and Planetarium, and the old castle ruin, from which the village gets its name.

The two nearest beaches are at Stroove (pronounced 'Shroove'), to the north, and just west of the lighthouse at Dunagree Point; with the other one, just below to the east, and north of of Greencastle Golf  Course, called 'Sweet Nellie's'.

Bigger and more spectacular beaches are within a twenty minute drive: Kinnegoe Bay is a spectacular beach, surrounded by high ground and cliffs. It is here that a Spanish Armada Vessel sank in 1588, called the La Trinidad Valencera. It was a vessel of Venetian origin, and one of the biggest in the fleet.
A little further west will bring you to the beach at Culdaff. It is a lovely stretch of sand, about 1km in length, and it has 'blue flag status'. Great for a day on the beach, with a safe play area for kids near the car park.

Another great beach, within view of the cottage is called 'Benone Strand'. However it lies on the other side of the Foyle. To get there, you take the ferry from Greencastle across to Magilligan Point and a short ten minute drive from there should get you to the beach.  The clean, firm, golden sands of Benone Strand are without rocks, shingle or seaweed and are 'preceded by the glorious natural formations of Benone's sand dunes'. With a supervised playground, outdoor paddling pool and golf club, a fun filled day is guaranteed. It is a haven for nature lovers as the entire area is a paradise for the study of botany, entomology and shells.

While on this side of the Foyle, you may want to extend your trip with some sightseeing; - to Down Hill, Port Stewart, Port Rush, The Giants Causeway, Bushmills Distillery and Dunluce Castle. On your return, stop at the recommended 'Point Bar & Restaurant' at Magilligan's Point: - just make sure you don't miss the last ferry crossing!
