The house is well appointed with a fully fitted kitchen, a separate dining room, utility room, lounge, and a large landing area upstairs that has been turned into a gaming area with a pool table, a large, flat, wall-mounted TV, dart board, bar etc. The lounge and dining room each have their own fireplace, and the house is fully insulated, double glazed, and made comfortable with oil fired central heating in the colder months. The TV's in the lounge, dining room and landing all receive SKY reception. Outside, is a large landscaped property, with a gravelled driveway that circumnavigates the house, and plenty of parking. The property is on an elevation along the lakeshore road, and it has views overlooking the lake. Situated in the village of Loughanure, it is just a 2 minute drive from the local shop, pub and garage in the main street. Loughanure is a small picturesque village that lies along the shores of the lake from which it gets its name. The N56 road passes through, and will get you to Dungloe, some 7km to the south west, or Crolly, which is only about 5km to the north east. It is located in the Gaeltacht; - and also lies in "The Rosses"; - a predominantly Irish speaking area of West Donegal, with a geography presenting a rocky, almost barren landscape, studded with a myriad of lakes, coastal sea inlets and numerous offshore islands. The village is small, but there is a fine supermarket shop at the local garage, and a popular Pub and Restaurant called "Casadh 'n Tsugain". You can't miss it; - the thatched building at the T junction on the main street. Local activities might include walking, and you will find an enticing landscape waiting to be explored: - But the lake may be your reason for coming here. You will not be disappointed; whether you are a keen angler or a boating enthusiast, you will be able to enjoy your sport, and maybe combine them.
There is a strong angling club in the village that has
hosted fishing competitions for many years. Fishing permits are
available from the club. The lake has plenty of brown trout, salmon, and
white trout to entice the angler.
The most notable historical event associated with Loughanure is "Cath na
Rosann" or "The Battle of the Rosses" fought between the O'Donnell's of
Donegal and the O'Neill's of Tyrone in 1435. |
