Ocean View Cottage is a lovely, newly built, luxury holiday home, with three bedrooms to sleep eight.

It has a north facing, stone-clad, front door surround. On entering, one faces a light, spacious, entrance hall on a ceramic tiled floor, with doors and staircase in a clear varnished, pine wood finish. To the right, the lounge, followed by the kitchen, and to the left, the staircase, followed by a side passage, two ground floor bedrooms, one with an en-suite and the main bathroom.

Upstairs, the landing, a third bedroom, a separate shower room, and a lounge with a west facing, viewing-balcony offering fabulous coastal and sea views.

The kitchen is a large spacious area that includes the dining table, and is fully fitted with all that one expects to make food preparation easy and convenient. There are west facing patio doors that connect to an outside decked patio area.

This unique deck is wrapped around two sides of the house in an L shaped configuration, with access from the back door as well as the patio doors, and its position takes full advantage of the view to the west, and the sun to the south. Depending on the weather.

The surrounding property has plenty of parking, and is a work in progress, undergoing landscaping. There will soon be lawns and shrubbery to improve this.

The home is situated on an elevated site on the side of Gortnasillagh Hill overlooking the Gweebarra River Estuary. As already mentioned, it has spectacular coastal views over the estuary, the rugged Donegal coastline, and the Atlantic. It lies off a minor road that deviates from the main N56 road between Glenties and Portnoo. When travelling on this stretch of the  N56, this road offers the scenic route, and re-connects a little further on. We will also add that the home is situated in a quiet and peaceful location and is an ideal touring base.

Surroundings

The nearest town is Glenties, some 6km to the south east. A small town in the parish of Iniskeel, situated where two glens meet, north west of the Blue Stack Mountains, and near the confluence of two rivers, - The Owenea and the Stracashel. The town has the unique distinction of winning the coveted national tidy towns competition five times, and winning a medal many other times. There is a lively tourist trade benefiting the hotel The Highlands, a variety of lively local pubs, a night club Lime Light and several guest houses and BandBs in the town. The majority of tourists come for the natural scenic beauty of the area, something that Donegal has plenty of.

The nearest beaches are a choice between Narin Strand at Portnoo or Dooey Beach, west of Lettermacaward. Either beach should not be more than about 10 to 15 min drive, both have lovely golden sands facing Gweebarra Bay. The beach at Dooey is a straight 3km long  north-south stretch that receives the swells that surge in from the Atlantic, making it especially popular with surfers.

Activities

There are many activities to keep the more energetic busy, with a few mentioned here.
Golf can be played nearby at the Narin-Portnoo Golf Club.
Hill walkers have no shortage of paths and trails, beaches and hills to explore.
Watersports include swimming, surfing, wind and kite surfing, sub-aqua, sailing and motor boating.
Perhaps the most popular activity in the area is still fishing, with the abundance of lakes, rivers, the coast, as well as deep sea fishing.

Depending on the time of year, but usually in the summer months, one can attend various local festivals taking place in the different towns and villages. Locally the most popular by far, is the Mary from Dungloe festival held in Dungloe in late July-early August. - Dont miss it.

Living Space

The kitchen and dining area have a clean uncluttered look, with a ceramic tiled floor and modern storage units, a dining table to seat six, and west facing patio doors, revealing lovely coastal views and opening to the outside decked patio area.
Appliances include a stainless steel sink, electric hob and oven, fume extractor, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, and essential crockery, cutlery and cookware.
A separate utility room has a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. There is also an outside clothes line.

The main living area is on the ground floor, just to the right of the main entrance. Comfortably furnished, it has matching seats consisting of a three seat couch and two arm chairs. There is also a separate recliner chair. The TV has DVD, and there is a wall mounted electric fire heater. There is no fireplace.

An upstairs lounge, is furnished with two large sofas and a TV with DVD. The main feature of this room is the patio doors which open on to a viewing balcony from which one can enjoy the view. As the balcony has glass panelled side barriers, the view is not obstructed from indoors.

The ground floor bedrooms each have large double beds, and one of them has an en-suite.
The upstairs bedroom has two double beds.
