Otway Cottage - Rathmullan

This newly built luxury cottage is located on an elevated site overlooking the nearby golf fairway and small sandy beach. The cottage has  panoramic views over Lough Swilly towards the Inishowen peninsula. The view also encompasses a nearby  Martello tower built in Napoleonic times on a rocky headland jutting into the lough. Otway Golf club is reputedly the second oldest course in Ireland and as it is literally on your doorstep you can enjoy this challenging little course at any time of day. A short walk takes you to a lovely secluded little sandy beach which you will often have to yourself. If you find this cottage is not available for the dates you are looking for, don't worry only a short walk apart from Otway Cottage is the equally beautiful Otway Lodge with the same stunning views. Ideal for larger groups of people or a number of families who want to get away on holidays together yet still have their own privacy. Otway Lodge can also be viewed on this website.

Local Attractions

Rathmullan village is 4km south along the coast from Otway Cottage. A new car ferry service operates from the pier connecting Rathmullan with Buncrana on the eastern shores of Lough Swilly. Buncrana has an indoor leisure centre with swimming pool, a large outdoor kids play area and a large selection of shops pubs and restaurants.

If you head northwards along the coast from Otway Cottage you’ll find one of the most spectacular drives in Ireland, the Knockalla Coast Road, which takes you to the small harbour at Portsalon - be sure to stop at Sarah’s bar and restaurant and savour the magnificent views. Portsalon has an 18 hole links course for the more adventurous golfer. If you travel about 2km further on you’ll find Ballydaheen Gardens. These formal gardens include a wide variety of native and foreign species and slope gently down to the dramatic sea caves known as the Seven Arches - a sight not to be missed.

Local Activities

Activities in the area include boat charter for pleasure and fishing trips at Rathmullan pier, pony trekking at the Golden Sands Equestrian Centre and hillwalking on the little country roads surrounding the cottage. Letterkenny, County Donegal’s main town, is 20 minutes by car and has a 5 screen cinema, public swimming pool, urban park, an Grianan Theatre and of course, a wide variety of shops.

The main living room is located to the front of the house to take full advantage of the superb sea views. It features a natural stone fireplace and leather furniture. Attached to the lounge is the sunroom - relax here and watch the golfers make their along the fairway or view the sailing and fishing boats as they make their way up and down Lough Swilly

  Bedrooms
