Peter's Farmhouse, Glencolmcille - a newly renovated farmhouse that has been part of the south west Donegal landscape for over 100 years. The farmhouse is 2km from the beach and shops in Glencolmcille and is only 0.5km to Silver Strand at Malinbeg. To the side of the house there is a large garden with access to the nearby mountain.

Glencolmcille

Glencolmcille is a coastal town located on the southwest Gaeltacht tip of County Donegal, Ireland. There are numerous natural beauties are within the immediate area, including, the Slieve League cliffs, the Silver Strand at Malin Beg and Glen Head itself. This coastal area was once notorious for smuggling. A trip to the Silver Strand will reward you with stunning views of the gorgeous beach and surrounding rocky cliffs.

Colm Cille and his followers lived in the valley and the ruins of several of their churches can still be seen there. Following a dispute with the church about the right to copy religious manuscripts, Colm Cille went into exile on the isle of Iona of the west coast of Scotland. The village has a petrol station, grocer, post office, folk village, woollen mill, restaurant and three pubs.

Irish Language and Culture

If you would like to find out more about the Irish language and culture, Oideas-Gael run courses throughout the summer. Combine an Irish language course with hill-walking, traditional music or even painting. Relax and listen to the world go by at one of our local pubs, while listening to a seísun of Irish music by some of Donegal's finest traditional fiddlers.

  • Visit the Glencolmcille Folk Village Museum - experience life as it was in the 1700's, 1800's and 1900's. The thatched cottages are exact replicas of those belonging to that era and are furnished accordingly.
  • Go sightseeing by boat to the spectacular Sliabh Liag and  Bunglas Cliffs.
  • Enjoy beautiful unspoilt beaches in the locality -  Glencolmcille, Doonalt, and the wonderful Silver Strand in neaby Malinbeg
  • Visit the ruins of the famine village of Port - a hidden gem!

  • Find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk. Slí Colmcille is a  a Bealach na Gaeltachta Waymarked Way that goes from Kilcar to Ardara via Glencolmcille
  • Go sea angling, dolphin spotting or birdwatcing from Teelin Pier.
