Customer Testimonials for Carly's Cottage - Derrybeg

Back to property details

This is a great house for a family with lots of kids or even for two small families. Loads of space, plenty of showers / WC, fully functioning self catering holiday home. Patrick is a great host, very responsive , loads of local knowledge. We were on a trip around the north west of Ireland and used Gweedore as a base to explore north west Donegal . It is an area of breath taking beauty. The house is 2 min walk from Teach Jack a lovely local hotel with great food music and craic. We went sea kayaking around inish mean with Gareth Doherty of Selkie sailing, a local man with infinite local knowledge of history, marine life , bird life and fauna. We visited Glenveagh National Park , Glebe House, horn head and swam in the local golden sandy beaches. The village of Bun Derry is 5 mins away by car for all your reasonably priced supplies. I couldn’t recommend this place more. Our only regret is we didn’t stay longer( 3 nights) . It’s a bit of a treck from Cork but it was well worth it.

We booked Carly’s Cottage this August to have an extended break in the Gweedore area to attend a family wedding. Having received a warm welcome by Pat we settled into the cosy home all set for a fabulous weekend. Having spent many a childhood holiday in the local area Carly’s Cottage did not disappoint! The house itself had absolutely everything we needed and more - a big plus was the amount of bathrooms available with 7 adults getting ready for a wedding!! The views from the house were amazing and a short drive to the beautiful local beaches - of which there are many! Our dogs loved the windy walks on the beautiful Atlantic coastline - stunning views that will always stay with me!!! Another big positive is the close proximity to the famous Teac Jacks which hosted great service, drinks, food and entertainment for everyone. As well as this we had a great Sunday lunch at The Ivy restaurant (recommended by our host) which is about a ten minute drive. Such great laughs and good times were had by all and we are already talking about making it an annual family trip!!!

“Carly's Cottage is a great holiday rental. It's super comfortable, with four en suite rooms plus a small single and an additional bathroom, too. The cooking/eating/living space is open plan and spacious. There's a pleasant outside area with table and barbecue - although we didn't eat outside because the evenings were a bit midgey. Although there aren't sea views from inside the house, if you stand at the front of the house you can see the sea about quarter of a mile away, and it's easy to walk down to a lovely rocky coastline and stony beach nearby. The cottage is in a village with petrol station and PO nearby. Best of all, Teac Jack's is a little hotel just 2 mins away - with good food, a pleasant bar and very friendly staff. We had a nice meal there on Friday night. Lots of other families eating there, too. The cottage is well situated for exploring Donegal. I only wish we could have stayed longer.”

Lovely stay with family and friends, Patrick and Eileen made us very welcome. Fitted us all comfortably, including children and dog, and enjoyed using the garden for a barbecue. The location is not too remote with plenty of sights to see if you have the car.

This place is wonderful. We had a really great experience during our stay. Booking was easy. Patrick was fantastic. He contacted us prior to arrival and kept in touch until we arrived - he was there personally to welcome us, show us around and give us advice on places we could visit on our trip - and there are plenty. Thoughtful stuff! The house is spacious. Ample rooms. Beds are comfortable. The ensuite bathrooms were a big plus and kept everyone happy. The kitchen is open plan with the dining room and lounge. It was fairly well stocked and came with dishwasher too. Bonus. DVD player for the kids which proved popular after sundown. There are plenty lovely beaches nearby. And if you don't wish to drive there is one a 10-15 min easy walk away. For those who like hiking it's a 20 minute drive to the Glenveagh National Park where there are plenty trails, loads of bog-land and awesome views. Remember to bring hiking boots that can take mud :) We'd certainly love to come back here again. Thanks for having us and being a great host!
