Customer Testimonials for Joe's Cottage - Cloghan, Ballybofey

Back to property details

Arriving at Joe's Cottage was an absolute treat.

The renovated property in 20 acres of land is delightful and, to stay in the beautiful double bedroom with its own wood burner (essential in the winter months in Co. Donegal) and wall of original stone, was exceptional. The bathroom attached was wonderfully finished.

The kitchen is a good family size with all modern accoutrements and the lounge, other bedrooms and bathrooms are similarly comfortable and refurbished to the highest standard.

The views are lovely and whether you’re after “relaxation away from it all" or “having a brilliant base from which to the see the sites”, Joe's cottage is highly recommended.

 We will definitely be back.

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 3 x teenagers) have returned to Joe's Cottage twice now, once in the autumn and once in the summer.  We are already planning our third visit.

The cottage itself and the interior decoration are just perfect and very tastefully done.  The owners have taken real care to make it a special place to stay, with beautiful artwork, local craft ware, wood burners, comfy sofas, and a huge bed!

I am particularly fussy about the cleanliness of rented holiday property but I could not find a thing wrong, much to the amazement of my children.

In the summer we regularly had our breakfast outside with views of the beautiful countryside and in the autumn we settled in front of the turf fire in the evening, exhausted from exploring the nearby area. Ballybofey is a good town with nice restaurants. In Cloghan, the local pub Harkins is definitely worth visiting too just to witness the famous dart playing dog which has to be seen to be believed.

In my opinion the coastline of Donegal is more spectacular than Cornwall and without the crowds. There are lots of blueflag beaches such as Porthnoo and Narin and we booked a course of surfing lessons which is something I would really recommend. The Slieve League Cliffs are definitely worth a visit too.

Our favourite place of all though is Salmons Leap on the River Finn.  We had it all to ourselves when we visited and we picnicked on the rocks by the side of the river watching the salmon swimming upstream.

I would highly recommend a visit.
