Rockmount Cottage - Portsalon

Rockmount Cottage is an outstanding holiday cottage which can accommodate up to 8 people in exceptional comfort. It is located on an elevated site overlooking the broad expanse of Ballymastocker Bay and enjoys spectacular sea views across Louth Swilly towards the Inishowen Peninsula. It is within 5 minutes walk of the little harbour, beach, Sarah’s Restaurant and The Stores Bar  and shop – kayaks and pedal boats can also be hired here.

Portsalon

Portsalon itself is a renowned scenic area with fabulous walks and views from virtually everywhere. It is approximately 20 miles from Letterkenny where there are excellent shopping facilities, restaurants/pubs, theatre etc. Portsalon has a splendid 18 hole links golf course and the shelter of the harbour makes the village an appealing spot for sailing, boating and fishing.

Portsalon beach is a beautiful beach, approximately a mile long. It has been awarded the prestigious blue flag award, and due to its location, is sheltered from the worst of the Atlantic weather. This beach is an absolute gem, and even though it was voted by The Observer as the second most beautiful beach in the world, it never gets overcrowded

Local Attractions

Less than 2 km from the cottages are the superb Ballydaheen Gardens. These Japanese and English style gardens slope all the way down to the shores of Lough Swilly. The gardens meet the shore at the famous 7 Arches - these are a series of seven interconnecting sea caves have been excavated by the action of waves on ancient limestone rock.

Close to Portsalon, you will find an abundance of unspoilt fisheries, offering the best of fishing to game, coarse and sea anglers. The scenery is breathtaking, and you will find that there is no angling like this anywhere else in Europe. You will also find that Portsalon is a wonderfully, peaceful base from which to explore the many places of interest in Donegal such as Glenveigh Castle, the Glebe Gallery, the Heritage Centres in Rathmullan and Ramelton.
