The Rosses Cottage ::

Tariff 2008

The cottage is named after the area of West Donegal in which it is situated; known as the Rosses, from the Irish word "Ros" for headland. It is an area of rocky barren landscapes, studded with many lakes and sea inlets. The towns of
Dungloe, Kincasslagh, Doochary, Lettermacaward, Ranafest and Annagry are included in this area. The cottage can be found on the road between Kincasslagh and Annagry, just south-west of Donegal airport, which is only a five minute drive away.

The cottage itself, is a compact, three bedroom dwelling, and sleeps up to six. It includes a fitted kitchen, a bathroom with a separate shower, and a sitting room and dining area. It is fully insulated with double glazing, and has oil fired central heating. The cottage is next door to the "Rosses Pub & Restaurant" which is managed by the same owner. Very convenient if you do not feel like preparing your own meals, or would fancy a drink or two- and the kids are welcome. Enjoy live music and be sure to check out the traditional sessions at weekends.

The nearby Donegal Airport runs scheduled flights to and from Dublin and Glasgow. There are regular daily flights on the Dublin route, and 4 flights a week on the Glasgow route. (Operated by Aer Arrann,) Facilities include: car hire, tourist information, cafe-bar, shop & news agent.

Golf enthusiast will be pleased to know that a nine hole course is situated at the nearby Cruit Island Golf Club, (4 miles from Kincasslagh) -  one of the most picturesque nine hole links to be found in Ireland.

Another very popular activity is angling. With all the many lakes, and the indented coastline, the numerous offshore islands; - this is probably an ideal area for casting a line, whether freshwater or deep sea fishing. The cottage owners have close links with the local sea angling club so can arrange trips and/or organise guides for inland fishing.

There are some
fine sandy beaches, with the nearest, only a 10 minute walk away, (Mullaghderg) and the beach at Carrickfinn is a blue flag status beach.

Watersports include swimming, surfing, sub-aqua diving, sailing, and one can hire boat rides to the off-shore islands. A year round ferry service operates to Arranmore, with hourly sailings in the summer months. From Burtonport, the trip takes about half an hour. - At Burtonport; "The Skippers Tavern &  Restaurant", is well recommended, offering a varied menu, including seafood.

Of interest to some, is the
unique Doll factory at Annagry, where the the famous "Crolly Doll" is made. Established in 1936, the dolls were originally made of porcelain, with hand painted features, hand knit and woven, woollens, tweeds and linen clothing. Some are quite unique, and sought after by collectors willing to pay high prices.

On a clear day, looking east, one cannot miss the imposing presence of Donegal's highest peak, known as
Mt Errigal. Cone shaped like a mini Mt Fuji, it presents quite a challenge to those attempting the climb, but they are well rewarded with spectacular panoramic views when reaching the summit.

At the foot of Errigal, lies Dunlewey, a beautiful lough, and behind it, the haunting and mysterious Poison Glen. Apart from the visual beauty of the area; visitors will find a restaurant and tea room, a craft shop, an adventure play area, lakeside walks, boat cruising on the lough, traditional music, audio-visual shows and tweed weaving displays. See the bottom picture on this page, and click on the 4th thumbnail for a view of Errigal. - a twenty minute drive from the cottage!
