The cottage itself, is a compact, three bedroom dwelling, and sleeps up to six. It includes a fitted kitchen, a bathroom with a separate shower, and a sitting room and dining area. It is fully insulated with double glazing, and has oil fired central heating. The cottage is next door to the "Rosses Pub & Restaurant" which is managed by the same owner. Very convenient if you do not feel like preparing your own meals, or would fancy a drink or two- and the kids are welcome. Enjoy live music and be sure to check out the traditional sessions at weekends.
The nearby Donegal Airport runs scheduled flights to and from Dublin and
Glasgow. There are regular daily flights on the
Dublin route, and 4
flights a week on the Glasgow route. (Operated by Aer Arrann,)
Facilities include: car hire, tourist information, cafe-bar, shop & news
agent.
Another very popular activity is
angling. With all the many lakes, and
the indented coastline, the numerous offshore islands; - this is
probably an ideal area for casting a line, whether freshwater or deep
sea fishing. The cottage owners have close links with the local sea
angling club so can arrange trips and/or organise guides for inland
fishing.
Watersports include swimming, surfing, sub-aqua diving, sailing, and one
can hire boat rides to the off-shore islands. A year round ferry service
operates to Arranmore, with hourly sailings in the summer months. From
Burtonport, the trip takes about half an hour. - At Burtonport; "The
Skippers Tavern & Restaurant", is well recommended, offering a
varied menu, including seafood. At the foot of Errigal, lies Dunlewey, a beautiful lough, and behind it, the haunting and mysterious Poison Glen. Apart from the visual beauty of the area; visitors will find a restaurant and tea room, a craft shop, an adventure play area, lakeside walks, boat cruising on the lough, traditional music, audio-visual shows and tweed weaving displays. See the bottom picture on this page, and click on the 4th thumbnail for a view of Errigal. - a twenty minute drive from the cottage! |
