The cottage is situated on a fenced property which is well back from the road. It has a long driveway leading to a gated entrance, making it a safe and secure environment for young children. It has four bedrooms to sleep up to ten, a main bathroom, upstairs toilet and basin, and a separate shower in one of the bedrooms. The kitchen, lounge and dining area share a large common space, lending a relaxed air of informality to the room. Comfort is assured with full insulation, double glazing and oil fired central heating throughout. There is also a solid fuel burning "stove" in the lounge for extra warmth in the colder months. The cottage is a five minute walk from two beaches: The picturesque and intimate sandy beach at Sandport and the shingle beach of Portmore beside Malin Head pier, which is popular for swimming and diving. In the summer months fresh crab and fish is landed daily at the pier.
Locally, there are three establishments where one could go for a drink
and possibly a meal. All are within walking distance. They are
"The Seaview Tavern", "The Crossroads Inn", and "Farren's Bar"; - which is
reputed to be Irelands most northerly pub. From here, there are incredible views of the surroundings. Looking South, the spectacular majesty of the Inishowen Peninsula lies before one. To the East and West, the rugged, rocky coastline, with its many coves and cliffs and beaches. Looking out to sea, especially on a clear day, you will see Tory Island in the West and the Scottish Hebrides (Islay & Jura) will be visible to the East.
Apart from sightseeing, whether
by car, cycle or foot; - Outdoor activities are many and varied. Hill-walking, hiking or rambling are very
popular. (One popular coastal walk along the cliffs, is from Banba's
Crown to Devils Bridge and Hells Hole.) Golf is very well catered for, with the nearest course being about a half hour drive away, at Ballyliffin. This famous course has 2 links, and its popularity has led to the growth of holiday accommodation in the area, and 5 hotels now serving Ballyliffin. Other golf courses are to be found at Greencastle, Buncrana, Redcastle and Derry. Take a drive on the route known as the "Inishowen 100". This is a scenic drive which takes you on a tour around the Inishowen Peninsula, following a roughly 100 mile journey that provides some of the most spectacular scenery to be seen anywhere in Ireland. |
