Seaside Holiday Cottage - Dungloe

This lovely cottage is situated on the Crohy Head scenic road in the townland of Falmore which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. This unspoilt tranquil rural seaside location is 9.6km from Dungloe and 1.6km from the sandy beach at Maghery. Falmore is an ideal base for touring the west Donegal countryside and is also a walkers and climbers paradise.

From Crohy Head, beautifully situated on a 35m cliff overlooking Boylagh Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, you will see Glencolumbkille, Iniskeel and Roaninish. There are fine sea cliffs, caves and a remarkable chasm that is 0.5 km long.

Dungloe

Dungloe is the main town in the area and is situated 9.6km from Seaside Cottage. The town takes its name from the stepping stones which crossed the river in the town before the bridge was built in the 19th century. The town's English name, Dungloe, is derived from 'Dún gCloiche', meaning 'fort of stone' which refers to a fort 8km north west of the town where a market was held until the 18th century.
Dungloe is a popular shopping centre for the people of the Rosses and is home to the famous 'Mary from Dungloe' contest which celebrates the song of the same name and is very popular with summer visitors.

Local Activities and Attractions

There is an abundance of activities here for the outdoor type; the ancient ruins of St. Crone's Church at Tearmon, the fishing villages of Burtonport and Bunbeg, a boat trip to Arranmore or Tory Islands, Glenveagh National Park among the Derryveagh Mountains, fishing (salmon, brown trout, sea trout) in the various rivers and lakes of the Rosses. The golf enthusiast also has a choice of courses in the area, including Gweedore (25km) and Portnoo (35km), as well as pitch and putt and tennis in Dungloe.

Donegal Airport is only 19.3km from the cottage. Flights to and from Dublin are on a daily schedule with a less frequent service to Glasgow -Prestwick. Car rental companies operate at the airport
