Silver Beach Cottage, Malinbeg - Glencolmcille

Silver Beach Cottage is a 3 bedroom holiday home with a lovely coastal setting along the ruggedly beautiful coastline between Glencolmcille and  the dramatic sea cliffs of Slieve League – the latter being one of 3 Signature Points along the Wild Atlantic Way in Donegal.  A true gem of this renowned coastal driving route is just 700 metres from the front door of the cottage – the stunning Silver Strand Beach.

The cottage two double bedroom, a bedroom with bunk beds (2 singles) and a bathroom. There is an open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and sitting area with multi-fuel stove. There are coastal views from the living area. Outside there is ample off road parking.

Silver Strand Beach

The holiday home is located in the townland of Malinbeg  (Malainn Bhig) which is also the name of the nearby bay. This dramatic bay is surrounded by high, horseshoe shaped cliffs. At the base of the cliffs is the stunning Silver Strand Beach.

This wonderfully secluded beach is accessed by a steeply sloping series of steps. The headland on the western side of the bay has the remains of fortifications beyond which Rathlinn O’Birne Island is visible. The headland to the south east rises runs parallel with the coastline to the top of Sliabh Liag Mountain (6km).

Glencolmcille

The holiday cottage is just 5km from Glencolmcille – a small coastal village in the beautiful glen (valley) of Colmcille. Apart from the scenic location, the village is renowned for the wealth of archaeological settlements dating from 3,000 B.C, a strong musical tradition, as well as being a haven of peace and tranquility.

It is the location of Oideas Gael  -  a renowned Irish language and cultural centre. Glencolmcille is also the location of the Glen Folk Village which comprises ‘An Clachán’ (or cluster) of replica buildings that depict life in the locality over about three centuries.

Slieve League Cliffs

The spectacular Slieve League (Liag) Cliffs are just over 18km from the holiday cottage.  The cliffs are a Signature Point on the Wild Atlantic Way and are said to be the one of the highest and finest marine cliffs in Europe. To fully enjoy the spectacle of Sliabh Liag it is best to leave the car at the car park and walk the few miles to the cliffs so as not to miss the exciting scenery of the area. The Cliffs can also be viewed from the sea with a charter boat operating from nearby Teelin (16km).

Ideal Walking Terrain

The winding coastal roads and inland mountain tracks that surround the holiday home provide ideal walking terrain for the keen rambler. In the wider region around the holiday home, there are a number of walking routes including Slí Colmcille.

Slí Cholmcille is a section of the 280km Slí Dhún na nGall that circles around the remote landscapes of south west Donegal. It is an 65 km route that connects the main towns and villages of the area, passing through spectacular unspoilt coastal and mountain landscape, including the lonely valley reaching down to the inlet of Port, and the dramatic valley of Glengesh.

Silver Beach Cottage is an ideal base for a relaxing holiday in tranquil surroundings – perfect for the keen walker, photographer, artist or angler.  With a superb beach almost on the doorstep it also great for a family seaside holiday.

The cottage also provides a relaxing base for those who wish to explore the Wild Atlantic Way in South West Donegal.  And finally is a great base to immerse  yourself in the Irish language, culture and music of the wider Glencolmcille area.

The living area enjoys sea views of the coastline at Silver Strand.  A multifuel stove provides a warm focal point. For home entertainment there is a  tv and dvd player. There is a good selection of dvds, books and board games available.

  Dining Area

The bright dining area features a table and 5 elegant dining chairs. Adjacent to the dining area is a breafast bar with 2 high stools.

Booking deposit (non-refundable) of euro150 per week - with balance to be paid 4 weeks prior to the letting period. ( 50 % of balance charged in case of no show or cancelled within 4 weeks prior to arrival )
