Sissly's Cottage :: Facilities
|
|
Tastefully restored in recent years,
Sissly's Cottage has a traditional Irish cottage layout and now provides
comfortable self catering accommodation for up to 4 people. A special
feature is the high vaulted main living area which gives the cottage a
very spacious feel.
The nearby Ballyliffin
Golf Club, with its marvellous contoured fairways, is a course that
adds new meaning to the phrase ‘a natural golf links'. The links courses
at Ballyliffin have received the highest accolades from top golfers.
Nick Faldo described the course as "the most natural golf links... a
hidden gem." Fred Daly described it as "a real Jewel." And Ireland's
Ryder Cup players Darren Clarke and Ronan Rafferty have tested and
approved it. In fact, the north coast of Ireland can now boast several
links courses on a par with Royal Portrush, making this a mecca for golf
enthusiasts.
The Inishowen Peninsula,
wherein the Isle of Doagh is situated, stretches between Lough
Foyle and Lough Swilly, to reach Ireland's most northerly point at
Malin Head. The drive round this expansive peninsula is spectacular
with fine views of mountains and sea. The numerous lakes and rivers
provide good game and coarse fishing. Just 2 miles away is the beautiful
Glenevin Waterfall with its walks and picnic area. Buncrana
with it's comprehensive range of shops is accessible in about 20
minutes.
Nearby activities include: Golf, Pitch & Putt, Doagh Island
Visitors Centre, Quad Trekking, Pony Trekking, Nature Walks, Sandy
Beaches, Fishing, Photography and Bird and Wildlife Observations.
The Doagh Visitor Centre
(5 min drive) provides a great variety of exhibitions telling the story
of Famine, Fear and Eviction. It is also a place where the customs,
traditions and history of the people of Inishowen are preserved in a
permanent way. The scenes include a Mass Rock, Presbyterian Meeting
House and Orange Hall.
