This beautifully restored Irish farm cottage is located in peaceful countryside outside the village of Kilmacrennan in North Donegal.  The cottage has been carefully  restored  in a manner that tastefully combines modern comforts with old world charm. The cottage is  sheltered  by mature trees and by some whitewashed farm out-buildings. It is situated in the centre of a working farm and is surrounded by hills and lovely open countryside. The decking to the side of the cottage provides a good vantage point to appreciate this wonderful rural setting

River Lennon

The cottage property extends down to, and has extensive frontage on the River Lennon, where one can walk for miles and not see a soul. There is a path down through the property to the river. On reaching the river you can fish for  brown trout. Indeed the cottage is ideally suited to those who enjoy river angling and hill walking.

Ideal Tour Base

A short drive - or leisurely 20 minute walk - will bring you into the village of Kilmacrennan. This busy village features a number of good restaurants and lively pubs. It is also very centrally located in North Donegal, making it an ideal tour base. Glenveagh National Park and Castle, Doe Castle, Glebe Gallery, Gartan Outdoor Pursuits Centre, numerous golf courses, riding stables, swimming are all within an 10 mile radius. Letterkenny - the main town of County Donegal -  is a 12 minute drive from the cottage.

The spectacular landscapes of the Inishowen and Fanad Peninsulas, the unspoilt Donegal Highlands and the ancient and historic walled City of Derry are all with an hours drive of the cottage

  • Take a trip along the  many spectacular scenic drives in the locality, The Atlantic Drive, Knockalla Coast Road, Horn Head, Lough Salt.
  • Golf on numers fine golf courses in a 20 mile radius - Rosapenna, Letterkenny, Dunfanaghy, Portsalon
  • Enjoy beautiful unspoilt beaches on the nearby coast - Ards, Marble Hill, Tramore
  • Go fly fishing on the  River Lennon - literally on your doorstep
  • Go deep sea fishing or sight seeing at Downings
  • Visit the enchanting Ards Forest Park
  • Climb Muckish and Errigal. Mount Errigal, the highest mountain in Donegal is a demanding climb and once on the summit you can see for miles around.
  • Visit Glenveagh National Park, with 16,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, wood and bogs. Glenveagh contains the largest red deer population in Europe.  Within the National Park Glenveagh Castle and gardens are well worth a visit on their own
  • Enjoy diving in the clear waters of  Mulroy and Sheephaven Bay
  • Find numerous peaceful roads, country lanes and mountain tracks to walk

While staying at Smiths Cottage you can walk through green fields and listen to the everyday sounds of a working farm. This beautiful traditional cottage is an excellent location for a range of activities including angling, hill walking, horse riding and -  for those for whom such pursuits are a little energetic - it’s also the perfect location for a relaxing getaway

The cottage half door opens into a large kitchen and dining room. The modern fitted kitchen has been tastefully designed to blend in with traditional theme of the cottage. The Stanley Range cooker at the centre of the room also provides heating and and hot water.

The sitting room in Smiths Cottage retains its original structure and cosy ambience. In keeping with the traditional theme of the cottage the room features an open fireplace, wooden ceiling and traditional farmhouse windows.  For home entertainment there is a TV, Video and a DVD player

Bedrooms  Bedrooms

The double bedroom in the cottage is located on the first floor and features a traditional style cast iron bed and narrow slit windows. Also located on the first floor there is a twin bedroom. On the ground floor there is a single bedroom with wash hand basin - this bedroom is situated off the sitting room.

All the beds in the cottage have electric blankets. All linen for the self catering holiday accommodation is provided - as are bath and hand towels.
