Sonas is wonderfully situated within the beautiful village of Dunlewey. Errigal rises majestically at the rear of the house and throughout the year, the trail of walkers making their way to the summit can be experienced from the living room windows. These oversized windows also allow you to sit and capture the magical views across Dunlewey Lough towards the Poisoned Glen.
Whether the mountains are snow-capped or glistening in sunlight, this home allows you to relax and enjoy nature at its best. The home is sheltered with mature trees and has a large well-maintained garden.
The accommodation is comfortable and warm with both central heating and an open turf/coal burning fire. Three bedrooms can accommodate up to 6 people, with an additional sofa-bed in the living area. The kitchen opens into a separate dining area and living area. There is a storage shed available for storing bikes, wetsuits, golf equipment, fishing rods etc.
A short 3 minute walk brings you to the Dunlewey Lakeside Centre (Ionad Cois Locha). This centre has great facilities for children and adults alike including playgrounds, boat trips across the lake, a pets area, restaurant, craft shop, weaving demonstrations. It also houses a fine theatre and cultural centre with various concerts throughout the year. Recent performers include Altan, Donegal Chamber Orchestra, and the Donegal Youth Orchestra.
Dunlewey is only 10km from the beautiful Glenveagh National Park. The Visitor Centre houses exhibitions and an audio-visual show and has a full programme of events running throughout the year e.g. ranger-led walks, birds of prey displays, garden detective hunts for children etc. The park itself has over 16,000 hectares (40,000 acres) of mountains, lakes, glens and woods, with a herd of red deer and the recently reintroduced Golden Eagle. A 19th century castle is surrounded by one of the best gardens in Ireland, and guided tours of the castle provide a great understanding of the history of this area.
Dunlewey and its surrounding areas are a walkers paradise. Sli an Earagail – is a 77km marked trail route that starts and ends in Dunlewey and Sonas is located along this route. It allows you to take in the most beautiful scenery at your ease. Congratulations on an absolutely wonderful site! I was going crazy researching availability on other sites - that did not state price, no. of rooms, bathroom facilities often (even after clicking three or four links) and also did not follow a pattern for each entry. Your site is delightful. I could go through all pages of entries and with the price details given immediately did not need to waste time over entries not within my budget.
